About The Position

The Manufacturing Engineer Intern will support operational excellence and continuous improvement initiatives within a high‑volume manufacturing environment. This internship provides hands‑on exposure to manufacturing systems, process optimization, data analysis, and documentation standardization. The intern will work closely with manufacturing engineers, design engineers, operators, and maintenance personnel on projects that improve equipment reliability, process control, and production readiness. This role is ideal for a student interested in applying engineering fundamentals in a practical, shop‑floor setting and gaining real‑world manufacturing experience.

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled in a four‑year college or university program in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Ability to work effectively in a manufacturing environment and collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams.
  • Must be eligible to work on programs subject to ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations)

Nice To Haves

  • Hands‑on experience building, assembling, or fabricating mechanical components (school projects, personal projects, or internships).
  • Exposure to shop tools, machining equipment, or manufacturing processes such as: CNC machining Welding Saws and presses Powder coating or finishing processes
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD modeling; SolidWorks experience preferred (coursework acceptable).
  • Comfortable navigating and interpreting 3D models and 2D engineering drawings
  • Ability to read and reference engineering drawings Introductory exposure to dimensional tolerances, fit, and GD&T (coursework acceptable).
  • Experience using basic measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Strong data collection, documentation, and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to learn and work hands‑on in a production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Help identify, document, and organize critical spare parts for manufacturing equipment.
  • Support maintenance and engineering teams by improving equipment readiness and reducing downtime risk.
  • Assist with organization and improvement of heater band and other component inventory systems.
  • Support labeling, part identification, and inventory best practices.
  • Develop and update manufacturing process specifications using operator input and real‑world process knowledge.
  • Help convert “tribal knowledge” into clear, repeatable, and standardized manufacturing documentation.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze manufacturing process data to understand variation and process stability.
  • Assist manufacturing engineers in using data to drive process improvements and performance optimization.
  • Provide general engineering and manufacturing support as needed on production floor initiatives.
  • Perform all other reasonable job‑related duties as assigned.
