About The Position

SEKISUI’s R&D team is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer III to join our team. The R&D Team is responsible for rapidly iterating and building cutting-edge composite parts, including commercial aerospace components, government projects, and IRAD efforts. This responsibility includes everything in the R&D manufacturing value-chain, including, but not limited to, Design for Manufacturability work, tool design & selection, process creation & optimization, vendor sourcing & interaction, quality planning, and documentation associated with the processes that the Manufacturing Engineer owns. The right person for this role can demonstrate past holistic ownership on solving a technical challenge with a creative, physical, solution that they either personally manufactured or oversaw manufacturing on, in a fast-paced, resource-limited environment. Requirements

  • A degree in a technical field, such as engineering, mathematics, or a hard science, is preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in composite manufacturing, preferably in the manufacturing or design of UAV components.

  • A genuine interest in manufacturing and thirst for learning
  • Experience in establishing qualification plans, to qualify processes and equipment to the customer specifications
  • Capable of designing or defining the requirements for the development of equipment, robotics, Lay-up molds, Vacuum Holding Fixtures, Shop Aids, Positioning fixtures, Go-No-Go inspection tools required for the manufacturing of new products
  • Understanding basic industrial engineering practices, such as, time studies, statistical analysis, ergonomic impacts, and value engineering principles

Responsibilities

  • Scale composites manufacturing processes to support high-volume production, ensuring consistent quality and reliability in mass-produced hardware systems.
  • Develop and refine manufacturing strategies specifically for high-volume composite products, focusing on efficiency, cost reduction, and maintaining stringent quality standards at scale.
  • Work with technicians and other engineers hands-on, building prototype components, with an emphasis on incorporating automation where feasible.
  • Own a portion or all of the manufacturing value chain for a certain product or set of products.
  • Work with Lead Tooling Engineer to develop novel tooling solutions for fabrication and assembly of structural parts.
  • Develop process flows, breaking down large, complex composite components into a logical part flow of sub-processes.
  • Write documentation required for successfully manufacturing at scale, such as work instructions, quality plans, inspection requirements, etc.
  • Work with material suppliers across various disciplines (prepreg, additives, core materials, metallic manufacturing, etc.) to develop repeatable, sustained processes for quick-turn development as well as at-scale production.
