About The Position

Scientific Drilling is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer III to join our Applied Technologies Center in Paso Robles, CA . Scientific Drilling is an independent directional drilling and wellbore navigation, surveying and logging service company serving customers in oil & gas and sustainable geothermal worldwide. We are motivated by crafting innovative solutions to technically challenging problems that support and advance our energy future. Nestled between San Francisco and Los Angeles, the California Central Coast is described as the happiest place on earth. The area features 200+ wineries, fresh air, miles of beautiful beaches, and small-town appeal. Our Manufacturing Engineer III will work in our Manufacturing team and is expected to perform the essential duties listed below. Candidates must have authorization to work in the United States.

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of manufacturing processes within electronics and/or mechanical production environments.
  • Strong proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and production forecasting tools.
  • Experience with process validation, statistical analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills using structured methodologies (e.g., DMAIC, 8D, Fishbone).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present technical information clearly to leadership.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to resolve interdepartmental conflicts and drive alignment on process improvements.
  • Professional conduct consistent with ATC dress code and SDI Code of Conduct.
  • Ability to meet all SDI/ATC safety requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Strong team-building capabilities and ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical, or related field) required; Master's degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in electronics and/or mechanical manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading process improvement initiatives and capital equipment projects.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma preferred (Green Belt or higher a plus).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with data analysis tools preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Own and lead manufacturing process development, validation, control, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Plan and optimize manufacturing processes from product introduction through full-scale production, focusing on space utilization, process flow, labor efficiency, and cost reduction.
  • Provide advanced line support and lead root cause analysis for in-process failures, yield issues, and systemic production challenges.
  • Drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) and implement sustainable process controls.
  • Lead Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews; evaluate drawings and specifications and initiate Engineering Change Orders (ECO/ECR) as necessary.
  • Develop and implement standardized work instructions, process documentation, and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Identify, justify, install, validate, and support new manufacturing equipment and automation solutions.
  • Lead capital equipment projects, including vendor selection, FAT/SAT validation, and commissioning.
  • Partner with Supply Chain and vendors to ensure compliance with quality standards and technical requirements.
  • Analyze production metrics (yield, cycle time, scrap, downtime) and implement data-driven improvements.
  • Support product transfers, new product introductions (NPI), and process scale-up activities.
  • Mentor and train manufacturing staff and junior engineers; provide technical leadership on the production floor.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations and actively promote Company HSE policies.
  • Participate in safety initiatives and conduct risk assessments related to process changes and equipment.
  • Maintain high standards of workplace organization and 5S practices.
  • Lead cross-functional improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.
  • May be required to work extended hours to support production needs or critical projects.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support business objectives.
