About The Position

As a Manufacturing Engineer on the Satellites and Buses team, you are responsible for design for manufacturing, tooling, and definition of the overall build plans for satellite systems. On this team, you would have the chance to own the building of satellite and bus assemblies such as primary and secondary structures, electrical systems, and mechanisms. This role will collaborate frequently with the design and production teams and require direct involvement in the component builds and integration of assemblies, acting as one of the primary driving forces to the successful builds of these vehicles. In this role, you will be highly engaged in the fabrication, test, and integration of a wide range of vehicle and production systems, including designing tooling and processes to rapidly build the products. As the building progresses, this role will be responsible for integration, operations sequencing, and working with technicians to install flight-critical hardware on the vehicle. The role requires a basic understanding of manufacturing principles, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team. Manufacturing Engineers, use their skills and expertise to develop and execute advanced manufacturing processes for cutting-edge space products and services. This role requires technical proficiency, innovation, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. It offers pioneering opportunities for long-term career growth in a dynamic industry, perfect for someone eager to make a meaningful impact with a diverse range of groundbreaking projects.

  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry. Specifically in large vehicle assembly and integration.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Proficiency in additional engineering software tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of industry standard design principles, to include, but not limited to parametric design, model-based definition, material hardware selection, manufacturing and production processes
  • Understanding of spacecraft subsystems, including structures, mechanisms, avionics, propulsion, and high-pressure systems
  • Demonstrated ability to create and implement processes from the ground up, with strong communication skills to engage a diverse team.
  • Exposure to Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) and clean room environments.
  • Experience with work instruction/traveler development
  • Participation in dispositions of Non-Conformance generation through a Material Review Board (MRB)
  • Experience with new product introduction and transition to production
  • Exposure to Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Manufacturing Execution System (MES), and Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) systems

Responsibilities

  • Own the entire product lifecycle for your satellite build while providing direct, shopfloor engineering support across build, integration, testing, logistics, and launch phases.
  • Working in tandem with design engineers from concept to final installation, you'll drive continuous improvement throughout the process.
  • Utilize cross-functional resources to develop production schedules, manage part demand and delivery, and oversee ground support equipment and tooling.
  • Developing efficient and reliable processes that leverage industry standards and Sierra best-practices.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, engineers, and technicians to solve complex issues.
