About The Position

As a Manufacturing Engineer at SpaceX, you will have the opportunity to utilize your knowledge, experience, and creativity to develop novel solutions at the cutting edge of space technology. You will work on hardware that will deliver satellites into Earth orbit, ferry humans to and from the International Space Station, and ultimately extend humanity's reach beyond Earth and the moon. You will own the relationship between our production and design engineering teams. You will provide input into the design and development of new and existing hardware and take a lead role in developing manufacturing and test processes on our current and next-generation vehicles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, chemical, manufacturing, electrical, aerospace and/or industrial engineering
  • 1+ years of engineering experience in manufacturing, design or development (internships included)
  • Willing to work second shift, Monday - Friday from 3:30PM - 1:30AM
  • Willing to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed
  • To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in an engineering discipline
  • Involvement in a professional engineering society OR collegiate design project
  • Experience with the build, assembly, or integration of large mechanical assemblies
  • Knowledge of metallic manufacturing techniques, processes, and equipment related to welding, metal forming, fastening, drilling, bonding and automation
  • Mechanical component and/or tooling design and analysis through 3D CAD software
  • Experience with Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA)
  • Experience transitioning complex products from RND to high-volume manufacturing in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience writing work instructions and procedures for critical aerospace parts
  • Experience in a production environment within the aerospace industry

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the build and inspection process for the structural assembly and integration of the Falcon Launch Vehicle
  • Develop, qualify, and refine manufacturing processes to meet all design and business requirements, including safety, quality, efficiency, and delivery
  • Collaborate with other engineers, subject matter experts, and technicians to solve large-scale production challenges
  • Work with design engineers to evaluate designs for manufacturability and test requirements, then implement in a rapidly-evolving production environment
  • Quickly resolve product non-conformances and collaborate with the Quality team to implement root cause corrective actions
  • Ideate and implement tooling and test solutions, enabling high quality build of SpaceX hardware
  • Identify, plan, and execute capital equipment, machine, layout upgrades, capacity models, and product flow analysis to the meet volume production demand and ensure on-time vehicle delivery
