Manufacturing Engineer - Fabrication

Enerflex Ltd.Houston, TX
43d

About The Position

The Manufacturing Engineer will support Enerflex's Spool and Vessel Fabrication departments by defining, improving, and sustaining core manufacturing processes. This role bridges engineering and operations-focusing on how work is performed and how to make it better. The Manufacturing Engineer partners closely with Managers and Supervisors in Spooling, Vessel, Hydro, Paint, and Fabrication Planning to identify and eliminate waste, formalize best practices, and improve cost, duration, and quality performance across the value stream. This position reports to the Director, Fabrication and will be an active contributor to Enerflex's Lean and Continuous Improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, or related Engineering program or equivalent experience in a fabrication environment.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a heavy manufacturing or metal fabrication setting (pressure vessels, pipe spools, or similar).
  • Proven experience in Lean Manufacturing, process mapping, and hands-on problem solving.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with ability to engage operators, leads, and supervisors on the shop floor.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of welding, material handling, and shop routing processes preferred.
  • Proficiency in Excel, data visualization, and process analysis tools; Power BI and CAD experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Map and document key fabrication processes for spools, vessels, hydro, and paint to ensure consistency and clarity across shifts and supervisors.
  • Develop and maintain standard work instructions, visual aids, and process flow documentation.
  • Partner with Supervisors and Leads to capture best practices and translate them into repeatable standards.
  • Identify sources of waste (DOWNTIME) in daily operations, lead root cause and corrective action activities with front-line personnel.
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing and Theory of Constraints principles to improve flow, reduce rework, and shorten cycle time.
  • Facilitate small-group improvement efforts that yield measurable performance gains.
  • Support and improve fabrication planning tools to better reflect labor standards, durations, and earned-hour tracking.
  • Analyze performance against plan to highlight cost and duration variances; recommend and implement improvements.
  • Create visual dashboards and metrics (e.g., throughput, rework, first-pass yield) that drive action, not just reporting.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Technical Specialists on tooling, facility, or equipment improvement projects.
  • Participate in evaluating, justifying, and implementing capital projects that enhance fabrication capability or reduce waste.
  • Provide technical input during design reviews to ensure manufacturability and efficient fabrication methods.

Benefits

  • Generous healthcare, dental and vision plans
  • 401(k) employer matching
  • Generous paid time off program
  • Employee equity plan
  • Tuition reimbursement
  • Fun office environment
