About The Position

We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join our Navy Systems team based in York, PA. Our team at the Grantley Plant custom design, develops, manufactures, ships, installs, and maintains industrial HVAC equipment for Navy vessels of all sizes. This position is responsible for supporting current manufacturing processes and facilitating the continuous improvement of these processes in the plant facility. Develops 5 axis programs and controls the processes pertaining to the work centers. Efficiently trains end users on machine controls, probing capabilities, tooling utilized, and part setup. Develops solutions for production problems related to materials, processes, and tooling. Supports new products and programs by developing new processes, designing tooling and machinery, and developing production controls

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in a technical field with 5 years of experience in programming or minimum of 10 years equivalent industry experience.
  • Ability to comprehend complex drawings and full understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Ability to define and communicate complex programming issues.
  • Basic knowledge of fixtures and fixture design.
  • Interpersonal skills needed to work successfully with both engineers and shop floor personnel.
  • Proficient computer skills and experience in a major programming software such as FeatureCAM, MasterCAM, Auto-CAD and Vericut software.
  • Background with Siemens controls preferred.
  • Modeling software experience with Solidworks or CREO.
  • Understanding of Lean practices and Six Sigma methodology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Capable of writing complex programs for machining equipment, including, but not limited to, 5 axis mill-turn and 5 axis gantry mill.
  • Ability to collaborate with Manufacturing Engineers or work independently to develop manufacturing/machining processes from drawings to create a part that meets specifications at lowest cost.
  • Designs work holding fixturing for optimum part rigidity and process repeatability.
  • Understanding of production schedule and works proactively to meet production demands.
  • Creates tool drawings and extensive set-up sheets for the machine operators to ensure repeatability of the machining process.
  • Determines proper tooling to be used for various required base metals. Establishes optimum feeds and speeds. Understands the effects of these variables on the machining process.
  • Works with tooling suppliers to identify tooling improvements. Performs tool testing to verify savings and tool performance.
  • Works with operators for program prove-out and process improvements.
  • Assists maintenance in machine set-up after machine repair.
  • Troubleshoots manufacturing problems to determine if issue is a process problem versus a machine issue.
  • Must understand and work with multiple models of machine tools and manufacturer’s controls.
  • Ability to manage software, files, solid models and other interfaces associated with programming software.
  • Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and work with engineering to determine design intent of the finished part.
