Manufacturing Engineer, Advanced Processes

Boom SupersonicCentennial, CO

About The Position

Some of the most critical parts we build at Boom can’t be made with conventional processes — and that’s exactly the point. We’re pushing advanced manufacturing methods to unlock new performance, new materials, and new design freedom across propulsion and turbomachinery. From casting to forging to additive, these processes are core to our roadmap — and they need to be industrialized, not just theorized. As a Manufacturing Engineer focused on advanced manufacturing, you’ll work hand-in-hand with our Materials & Processes (M&P) team to turn ambitious designs into producible hardware. If you’re energized by hard manufacturing problems, new processes, and thoughtfully iterating your way to real, repeatable solutions — we need you. This role rewards strong scientific thinking: forming hypotheses, running disciplined experiments, learning quickly, and converging on production-ready processes.

Requirements

  • Experience developing or owning advanced manufacturing processes
  • Hands-on familiarity with one or more of: centrifugal casting, investment casting, open-air casting, lost-PLA casting, HIP, heat treat, additive manufacturing, or forging
  • Strong understanding of how material behavior, geometry, and process interact
  • Comfortable working across design, materials, quality, and suppliers
  • Able to move fluidly between experimental builds and production-minded execution
  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic and ambition, complemented by effective collaboration skills in a team setting
  • Excels in a high-energy, independent, and challenging work environment
  • To conform to U.S. Government aerospace technology export regulations (ITAR and EAR), applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience scaling advanced manufacturing processes beyond R&D
  • Deep additive manufacturing experience — including hands-on work with production metal AM systems (EOS strongly preferred), with a strong understanding of slicing, build setup, support strategy, and process parameter development (not just running machines).
  • Direct experience qualifying new materials, processes and vendors
  • Background in aerospace, turbomachinery, or high-temperature alloys
  • Proven ability to turn early-stage processes into reliable production workflows

Responsibilities

  • Develop and industrialize advanced manufacturing processes including casting, forging, HIP, small hole EDM, EDM sinkers, coatings and additive manufacturing
  • Partner closely with Materials & Processes engineers to ensure designs are physically buildable
  • Own process development from early experimentation through repeatable production
  • Evaluate, propose, and technically defend vertical integration decisions — determining when advanced manufacturing processes should be developed in-house versus sourced externally, based on capability, cost, schedule, and risk.
  • Work with internal teams and external vendors to qualify processes and suppliers
  • Translate material and process constraints into actionable design-for-manufacturing guidance
  • Support part transitions from R&D builds to scalable production methods
  • Diagnose manufacturing failures and drive root-cause resolution across materials and processes

Benefits

  • Other rewards may include long-term incentives/equity, a flexible PTO policy, and many other progressive benefits.
