Discover more at Lam Benefits Job Descriptions: Essential Function: The Level 3 Rapid Prototype Manufacturing (RPM) Engineer serves as a technical leader responsible for developing, evaluating, launching, and continuously improving manufacturing processes for silicon and related materials. This role provides advanced engineering expertise across machining, lapping, polishing, clean‑room operations, and other critical technologies to ensure Silfex’s capability to deliver high‑complexity products with industry‑leading quality and efficiency. This role is a key technical driver for the flawless launch of new products, owning the transition of parts and processes from concept and prototype through first article, qualification, and full production release using Silfex’s gated program launch tools. It ensures manufacturability, process capability, and specification compliance through deep collaboration with internal teams, suppliers, and customers. As an RPM member of the engineering team, the Level 3 RPM Engineer leads cross‑functional efforts to improve safety, quality, yield, throughput, and cost performance. The position provides direction, mentorship, and technical decision‑making support for engineering peers, technicians, and production associates. The role champions Lean manufacturing, problem‑solving methodologies, design‑for‑manufacturability approaches, and continuous improvement initiatives across the organization. The Level 3 RPM Engineer plays a critical cultural leadership role by modeling Silfex’s Mission and Core Values, promoting a proactive safety culture, facilitating clear and strategic communication, and strengthening collaboration across departments. Through influential leadership and technical excellence, this role ensures Silfex maintains a competitive advantage in precision manufacturing, customer responsiveness, and new product introduction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Manufacturing, or related Engineering discipline plus 5+ years of relevant experience; or in lieu of degree, 6+ years of manufacturing and problem‑solving experience.
  • Advanced ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex technical documents, specifications, and customer/internal drawings
  • Advanced application of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and inspection planning.
  • Strong knowledge of CNC machining processes and ability to collaborate with or review CNC/CMM programming decisions
  • Proficiency in Lean methodologies with demonstrated experience leading process‑improvement initiatives.
  • Expert use of problem‑solving tools (A3, DMAIC, DOE, 8D, cause & effect).
  • Strong understanding of SPC and experience applying Minitab/JMP for process capability and data analysis.
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical/statistical techniques to solve complex manufacturing problems.
  • Ability to lead cross‑functional teams and technical discussions with internal teams and customers.
  • Ability to mentor lower‑level engineers in Lean, SPC, and problem‑solving tools.
  • Comfortable interacting with various levels of the organization and with customers.
  • Demonstrated experience leading medium‑to‑large engineering projects, including planning, execution, and risk mitigation.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or within teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Access), and statistical software (Minitab, JMP).
  • Ability to use data tools to perform advanced analysis supporting engineering decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all company safety policies and report any unsafe conditions to Engineering Manager, EHS Manager, and/or Director of Manufacturing.
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the Company Quality Management System and apply Quality Procedures and Operating Procedures as appropriate.
  • Apply lean manufacturing concepts and structured problem-solving tools such as DMAIC, 8D, etc.
  • Evaluate existing manufacturing methods and sequences and recommend/implement improvements that increase efficiency, reduce cost, reduce waste, etc.
  • Evaluate and test alternative products or materials to improve Silfex’s technical manufacturing capabilities, resulting in throughput increase, cost reduction, and yield improvement.
  • Create manufacturing methods and inspection plans from customer prints to achieve specifications.
  • Understand concepts of CNC machining and CMM inspection; coordinate with CNC and CMM programmers to achieve required specifications.
  • Responsible for ensuring feasibility of manufacturing processes.
  • Coordinate installation and qualification of manufacturing equipment.
  • Participate in the Material Review Board (MRB), recommending alternate process configurations that conserve material.
  • Coordinate with customers on design changes for manufacturability.
  • Work with cross-functional teams including Business Development, Process Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Operations.
  • Take measurements using hand gages (calipers, micrometers), coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), and surface finish profilometers.
  • Understand and apply process control (SPC) and measurement systems analysis (MSA).
  • Prepare reports and presentations by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Perform tasks/duties related to special projects or assignments and assist senior engineers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by department management.
