The Manufacturing Cost Accountant is an onsite position at our manufacturing plant in Longview TX, and is responsible for analyzing, developing, and maintaining accurate cost information for a blown film manufacturing operation. This role partners closely with plant leadership, production, and operations to ensure material, labor, overhead, and waste costs are properly captured, analyzed, and reported. The Cost Accountant plays a key role in driving cost transparency, margin improvement, and operational decision making.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 3+ years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory accounting.
  • Experience working in an ERP system (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar).
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis).
  • Experience in blown film, plastics, extrusion, or chemical manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of resin costing, yield analysis, and waste/scrap tracking.
  • CMA or CPA designation (or progress toward certification).
  • Experience supporting Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast paced manufacturing environment
  • Excellent communication skills with both finance and operations teams
  • High attention to detail and data accuracy
  • Ability to translate financial data into actionable operational insight
  • 25 - 50% of time spent on the plant floor.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, hands-on manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and analyze standard costs for raw materials (resins, additives), labor, and manufacturing.
  • Perform monthly cost closes, including inventory valuation, cost roll ups, and variance analysis.
  • Analyze production variances including material usage, waste/scrap, labor efficiency, and overhead.
  • Investigate significant cost variances and partner with operations to identify root causes and corrective actions.
  • Support yield analysis specific to blown film extrusion processes.
  • Oversee inventory costing, cycle counts, and physical inventory processes.
  • Ensure accurate tracking of raw materials, WIP, finished goods, and scrap.
  • Reconcile inventory accounts and investigate discrepancies.
  • Support BOM and routing accuracy in the ERP system.
  • Prepare and distribute weekly and monthly manufacturing cost reports.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and standard cost updates.
  • Provide margin analysis by product, customer, and SKU.
  • Assist with capital expenditure (CAPEX) analysis and post investment reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
  • Support internal and external audits related to inventory and manufacturing costs.
  • Maintain strong internal controls over cost accounting process
  • Work closely with Plant Manager, Operations, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by providing cost data and financial insight.
  • Participate in new product introductions and process improvement projects.
