About The Position

The Manual Machinist operates a variety of manual machine tools to fabricate, repair, or modify metal parts and components according to precise specifications and blueprints. Responsible for setup, operation, and maintenance of manual shop equipment to ensure accuracy, quality, and safety throughout the machining processes.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training in machining preferred.
  • Minimum [1] year experience operating manual machine shop equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with the following: - Drill Press - Manual Lathe - Band Saw - Rigid Threading Machine - Tape Measure (for layouts and checks) - Calipers (for precision measurements) - Pencil Grinders (for finishing and deburring)
  • Strong understanding of metalworking processes and machining characteristics of various materials.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical blueprints and drawings.
  • Proficient in understanding and using precise measurement instruments.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on quality workmanship and safety.
  • Physically able to handle machine operation demands, including standing for extended periods, lifting, and manual handling.
  • Willingness to work overtime or flexible hours as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and job orders to determine machining specifications and setup requirements.
  • Set up and operate manual machines, including: - Drill Press - Manual Lathe - Band Saw - Rigid Threading Machine - Pencil Grinders
  • Use measuring and layout tools such as tape measures and calipers to ensure work meets specified dimensions and tolerances.
  • Mark materials for machining using layout devices such as tape measures, calipers, and marking equipment.
  • Cut, thread, and shape parts with precision, utilizing assigned machines to produce required components.
  • Monitor machine operations, making adjustments to ensure quality and tolerance requirements are consistently met.
  • Regularly inspect finished pieces using precision measuring tools to verify accuracy and conformance to blueprints.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on machines, such as cleaning, lubricating, and changing machining parts.
  • Follow established safety procedures and guidelines, maintaining a safe and organized work environment.
  • Collaborate with other associates, engineers, and supervisors to resolve manufacturing issues and optimize productivity.
  • Accurately document work performed, material use, and inspection results as required.
