This position for a Manual Lathe Operator is an existing vacancy. The operator will be responsible for performing safety checks, reading blueprints, recording machining information, operating and interpreting various measuring devices, monitoring equipment calibration needs, conducting inspections, collaborating with the department supervisor and maintenance, and maintaining housekeeping. The role requires operating cranes, hoists, tables, forklifts, general hand tools, shop floor equipment, company computer systems, and specifically a lathe machine.

Requirements

  • Possess good communication and reasoning skills with the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions whether written or oral.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment to meet team expectations.
  • Understand and support Company policies and procedures.
  • Ability to understand and abide by all safety rules and regulations to perform the job.
  • Operate cranes, hoists, tables, forklifts, and other devices in a safe manner and complete any training/safety program relating to the operation of the equipment.
  • Operate general hand tools.
  • Operate shop floor equipment.
  • Operate company computer systems.
  • Operator lathe machine.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all safety checks at the start of the shift on all cranes and tools, document as necessary and continue to perform safety checks throughout the shift.
  • Read, understand, and interpret blueprints and job routings.
  • Record required information on proper forms relating to machining practices where required.
  • Properly operate and interpret various measuring devices (micrometers, calipers, gauges etc.).
  • Correctly monitor and identify when equipment needs to be sent out for calibration.
  • Perform inspections using Quality Assurance procedures and work instructions.
  • Work with department supervisor and maintenance to make sure machines are running smoothly.
  • Performs housekeeping and other related duties.
