About The Position

Lake Forest High School District 115 is seeking a part-time (0.8 FTE) Mandarin Long-term Substitute Teacher. Description: Lake Forest High School has an opening for a part time (0.8 FTE) Mandarin teacher for the remainder of the 2025-26 school year. The World Language Department is seeking a teacher who establishes a strong culture of learning and engages students in challenging content through well-designed learning tasks and activities. This role demands a professional who not only has an in-depth understanding of the subject matter, but also a high level of instructional skill and a commitment to every student's academic growth and achievement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL, commonly known as a Teacher's certificate) or a Substitute license
  • Strong knowledge of Mandarin and the ability to differentiate instruction to meet the varied needs and interest of students
  • Skill in fostering a classroom environment in which the lives and needs of all students are validated, recognized, and appreciated
  • Experience in mentoring students to develop literacies and a sense of community within the classroom
  • A commitment to continuous professional development and a mindset geared toward the ongoing improvement of teaching practices and outcomes for students

Responsibilities

  • Engage students at a variety of levels and encourage them to use the target language on a consistent basis
  • Understand and incorporate the ACTFL proficiency standards i n curriculum development
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with students, fostering an environment conducive to learning and growth
  • Demonstrate exceptional content knowledge in Mandarin, with the ability to adapt instruction to suit a diverse range of student backgrounds and interests
  • Employ effective communication and collaboration skills when interacting with students, faculty, and parents, ensuring a cohesive educational experience
  • Facilitate a classroom environment that encourages student collaboration and discourse, enhancing the learning experience for all
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop and refine course learning objectives, common assessments, and curricula
  • Participate in a team-based approach to promote continuous enhancement of instructional practices

Benefits

  • $22.00/hour, $249.48/day, or $356.40/day based on length of assignment and prorated to FTE. No additional benefits associated with this position.
