About The Position

Lake Forest High School District 115 is seeking a part-time (0.8 FTE) Mandarin Long-term Substitute Teacher. Description: Lake Forest High School has an opening for a part time (0.8 FTE) Mandarin teacher for the remainder of the 2025-26 school year. The World Language Department is seeking a teacher who establishes a strong culture of learning and engages students in challenging content through well-designed learning tasks and activities. This role demands a professional who not only has an in-depth understanding of the subject matter, but also a high level of instructional skill and a commitment to every student's academic growth and achievement.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree
Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL, commonly known as a Teacher's certificate) or a Substitute license
Strong knowledge of Mandarin and the ability to differentiate instruction to meet the varied needs and interest of students
Skill in fostering a classroom environment in which the lives and needs of all students are validated, recognized, and appreciated
Experience in mentoring students to develop literacies and a sense of community within the classroom
A commitment to continuous professional development and a mindset geared toward the ongoing improvement of teaching practices and outcomes for students

Responsibilities

Engage students at a variety of levels and encourage them to use the target language on a consistent basis
Understand and incorporate the ACTFL proficiency standards i n curriculum development
Develop and maintain positive relationships with students, fostering an environment conducive to learning and growth
Demonstrate exceptional content knowledge in Mandarin, with the ability to adapt instruction to suit a diverse range of student backgrounds and interests
Employ effective communication and collaboration skills when interacting with students, faculty, and parents, ensuring a cohesive educational experience
Facilitate a classroom environment that encourages student collaboration and discourse, enhancing the learning experience for all
Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop and refine course learning objectives, common assessments, and curricula
Participate in a team-based approach to promote continuous enhancement of instructional practices
