About The Position

We are currently seeking a Managing Engineer with expertise in ADAS and/or AVs for our Vehicle Engineering Practice in our Farmington Hills, MI office. In this role, you will work as part of a team executing consulting projects that involve the analysis and testing of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS); automated vehicles; vehicle, engine, and component performance (e.g., emissions; fuel economy; noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH); drivability; acceleration; etc.); federal emissions and fuel economy testing; mechanical failures; safety assessments; federal and state regulations; and the design of consumer and industrial products. You will have the opportunity to ultimately develop your own consulting practice and grow professionally within Exponent.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, or a related field
  • 5+ years of work experience in ADAS, automated vehicles (AVs), and/or vehicle and automotive system design, development, testing, and deployment
  • Presently legally authorized to work in the United States; no immigration sponsorship or processing required
  • Ability to generate business and manage client relationships
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interact with managers, engineers, non-technical personnel, and clients and present technical topics in a cogent and comprehensible manner
  • Strong leadership and communication skills and experience mentoring junior staff
  • Field and/or lab measurement experience with good hands-on skills
  • Versatile, team-oriented, willing to work overtime and travel when required

Responsibilities

  • Managing projects from initiation to completion; communicating project updates to other team members, clients, and administrative staff; ensuring that Exponent meets its deadlines and produces exceptional work product; and identifying business development opportunities
  • Developing and managing client relationships
  • Project and cost management on casework
  • Setting up and executing various test programs, including full-scale vehicle tests and component or control systems evaluations
  • Continuing to develop specialized expertise in the automotive field such as the design, performance, and testing of existing or emerging automotive technology
  • Managing, mentoring, and providing project work for junior consulting staff
  • Developing and growing the Vehicle Engineering Practice
