About The Position

The Managing Editor at The News-Item will oversee all editorial operations, ensuring the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of content across various platforms. Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field is preferred but not required.
• 5+ years of experience in journalism, with at least 2 years in an editorial leadership role.
• Exceptional editing and writing skills with a keen eye for detail.
• Strong news judgment and familiarity with current events and industry trends.
• Proven experience managing teams and driving editorial projects to completion.
• Proficiency in digital publishing tools, analytics platforms, and social media.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to thrive under tight deadlines and handle multiple priorities effectively.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the editorial team, including reporters, editors, and freelance content producers.
• Oversee the planning, assignment, and execution of daily and long-term editorial content.
• Ensure all content aligns with the publication's style, tone, and ethical standards.
• Collaborate with department heads to optimize workflows across print, digital, and multimedia platforms.
• Monitor breaking news and ensure timely, accurate coverage.
• Edit and approve content for publication, maintaining a high standard of quality.
• Analyze audience metrics to guide content strategies and improve reader engagement.
• Develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices for the newsroom.
• Mentor and train staff, fostering professional growth and teamwork.
• Work with the advertising team to coordinate the production of special projects.
