About The Position

The Duke Divinity School is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Managing Director of Coordination Programs to join our team at a nationally recognized, Lilly Endowment–funded intermediary organization dedicated to strengthening Christian institutions that support congregations. In this pivotal role, you will lead a team responsible for supporting large learning communities in grant-funded initiatives. You will provide administrative management and coordination of multiple grant funded projects including strategy development, budget and human resources in accordance with grant requirements and all University policies. You will represent the department with funder and constituents. The position is supervised by the Executive Director for Grants and Services. This position is 100% funded by a sponsored program that is currently funded by a grant through December 31, 2028. The department is a Lilly Endowment funded intermediary organization and is a unit of Duke Divinity School.

Requirements

  • Work requires communications, analytical and organization skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.
  • Work requires 7 years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience in organizational capacity building and business models OR ANY OTHER EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Responsibilities

  • Develop strategies in alignment with funder priorities, department mission and school priorities and oversee development of staff and programs.
  • Follow departmental practices for grants, event, and other project management, streamlining them across multiple similar programs.
  • Manage communications with participant organizations and their staff through mass and one-on-one strategies to ensure maximum participation by constituents.
  • Work closely with peer grantees (intermediaries and others) to coordinate strategy and provide mutually beneficial operational support.
  • Work closely with departmental colleagues to develop and maintain program data collection systems and conduct data analysis to propose strategic directions.
  • Develop systems to relate with constituents to understand the needs for services and to develop collaborative working relationships with a variety of organizations.
  • Develop priorities for developing relationships and administer budgeted funds in execution of those priorities. Track all relationships using designated tools and processes.
  • Design and facilitate educational experiences that nurture the vision of leadership articulated in the purposes of the department. Engage in worship leadership and practices of ministry as appropriate.
  • Provide support, direction and evaluation for contractors who are part of the service delivery system.
  • Oversee fiscal management, including program budget development and long-range forecasts; plan program budgets by analyzing operating needs and projecting revenues and expenses on both a short-term and long-range basis.
  • Prepare financial and operational reports, as well as reports to granting agencies and donors; develop analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of designated employees on specific projects in accordance with university and departmental objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with university policies and procedures, particularly as they relate to financial and sponsored programs compliance and human resource management.
  • Maintain liaison with internal and external educational and professional organizations to explore new program opportunities, to develop and improve current programs and practices and to represent the interests and capabilities of the Duke Divinity School.
  • Represent department head in meetings, conferences and other affairs of an administrative nature.
  • Be available to travel in performance of these and related duties.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
