Aprio is a progressive, fast-growing firm looking for a Managing Director, Employment Tax to join their dynamic team. The Managing Director, Employment Tax is a senior leadership role reporting to the Partner in charge of the ET practice. This person will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of employment tax practice strategy, compliance, and advisory services within the organization. This individual leads a team of tax professionals who work with clients to deliver services in the payroll tax space. The Managing Director, along with the practice partner, acts as the primary points of contact for complex tax matters, working with and representing clients in dealings with regulatory authorities and providing expert guidance to client leadership. This a critical role in safeguarding the organization’s compliance posture, optimizing tax efficiency, and supporting overall business objectives through expert tax leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field; advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CPA, JD, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Extensive experience (typically 10+ years) in employment tax, payroll tax, or related fields, with demonstrated leadership in a senior management or director-level role.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and local employment tax laws and regulations.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax concepts to non-specialists.
  • Proven track record in managing teams, projects, and relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive employment tax practice strategies that align with organizational goals and requirements.
  • Oversee all aspects of employment tax compliance, including payroll tax filings, reporting on behalf of clients.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of employment tax professionals, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Advise senior management and stakeholders on employment tax implications related to business operations, mergers, acquisitions, and restructurings.
  • Monitor changes in employment tax legislation and facilitate timely communication and adaptation for client education.
  • Participate and help drive market growth both through external new client additions and internal expansion of services.
  • Drive process improvements and leverage technology to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the employment tax practice.
