About The Position

ASTM International is seeking an accomplished and visionary leader to serve as Managing Director for a new global initiative at the intersection of AI, data governance, and advanced manufacturing. This highly visible role will lead a transformative, multi-stakeholder program designed to enable industry to securely share high-value datasets, accelerate AI-driven innovation, and shape the future of digital manufacturing. The Managing Director will define strategic direction, build a robust contributor and user ecosystem, oversee technical execution, and ensure ASTM’s continued leadership in establishing globally trusted frameworks for data collaboration and AI readiness. This position is ideal for an entrepreneurial executive with experience scaling data-driven platforms or digital ecosystems who wants to influence the future of industrial AI on a global stage.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in advanced manufacturing and AI/ML platforms, data ecosystems or digital transformation.
  • Demonstrated success building or scaling complex, multi-stakeholder programs or data-driven platforms.
  • Familiarity with data governance, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity frameworks, and AI model development environments.
  • Strategic thinker capable of translating vision into effective implementation.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills, including with Fortune 500s, governments, and global partners.
  • Strong communication and executive presence; able to serve as a public ambassador for ASTM programs.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced, and evolving environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or MBA preferred.
  • Experience with standards development or manufacturing systems is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the establishment and growth of ASTM’s new AI & Data Ecosystem initiative, ensuring alignment with ASTM’s mission of trust, neutrality, and global relevance.
  • Define and drive a strategic roadmap for cross-industry adoption, initially focused on advanced manufacturing and related critical technologies.
  • Represent ASTM in high-level global forums, government engagements, and standards committees to advance the vision for secure, interoperable, standards-based data collaboration.
  • Direct the planning, build-out, and scaling of the program’s digital, operational, and governance infrastructure in collaboration with internal teams and external partners.
  • Oversee program functions including data quality, governance frameworks, cybersecurity, standards alignment, and operational readiness.
  • Develop sustainable value and incentive models that support long-term program growth and cross-industry participation.
  • Engage ASTM members, corporations, global partners, and government stakeholders to drive participation across the data contributor, subscriber, and technology integrator communities.
  • Establish strategic partnerships with leading technology providers, research institutions, consortia, and sovereign collaborators.
  • Guide the formation and advancement of technical committees focused on data, AI, and digital manufacturing standards.
  • Recruit, mentor, and lead a cross-functional team, including program managers, data engineers, data scientists, product leaders, and partner success roles.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, transparency, and excellence within the program and broader division.
  • Ensure a collaborative working cadence across ASTM departments including standards, technology, marketing, global outreach, and legal.
