The Managing Counsel, Ceremonies and Content, will drive day to day legal strategy and draft agreements for the following key content initiatives: 1) Music (e.g., music licensing and clearances for Ceremonies, Live Sites, concerts, venues, and in-sport use); and 2) Non-Competition Events, content and related marketing efforts (e.g., Torch Relays, Cultural Olympiad, Live Sites, Fan Experiences). This individual will serve a dual role as the organization’s in-house music legal specialist and a leader in event and content contracting. Working alongside the rest of the legal team, and others within LA28 and its related production company(ies), this position will be responsible for driving the execution of a diverse array of legal agreements to signature necessary to implement LA28’s diverse array of creative initiatives (e.g., music licenses, label waivers, performer agreements, creative services agreements, venue/vendor agreements, government and local organization cooperation agreements, marketing guidelines, work for hire agreements, releases). In addition to negotiating and finalizing intellectual property and operational contracts, this attorney will manage outside music clearance professionals, ensure external compliance with LA28’s event agreements and create/execute processes to ensure satisfaction of all required deliverables. This position will coordinate with other LA28 attorneys, business executives, and external stakeholders (e.g., IOC, IPC, broadcasters, sponsors, venues, government entities, outside counsel, etc.). To be successful in this role, one must be an experienced attorney, ready to hit the ground running with existing expertise in events, music and intellectual property licensing. The individual should thrive in a “start-up” environment, work quickly and collaboratively (team-players only), utilize nimble drafting skills and leverage keen communication skills; the work will require issue-spotting, creative problem-solving, timely follow-through, persuasive negotiation ability, and an aptitude to balance risks independently and stay calm under pressure.
