About The Position

CLA seeks a Managing Attorney (MA) to oversee both its Greenfield and Northampton offices, or potentially two separate MAs who will each cover one of those offices. The decision to hire one or two MAs will depend on the qualifications of the candidates, the size of the caseload they may handle, and their ability to meet other work duties. Each of those offices has between 7 and 10 staff members who are a mix of receptionists, advocates, and attorneys. The MA will help with office administration and management, including conducting regular staff meetings; participating with other supervisors in the writing of annual performance reviews of staff; coordinating appropriate trainings and wellness activities and providing support for staff; working on outreach projects with staff; and assisting in the handling of issues arising with the physical plant. The MA will also be expected to act as the face of the organization in Hampshire and/or Franklin Counties, including regularly attending bar functions, funder meetings, agency get-togethers, and other community events. The MA will assist with fundraising initiatives and grant-acquisition, writing, and reporting activities. The MA may also handle a caseload in one or more of CLA's practice areas, commensurate with their administrative duties. Community Legal Aid (CLA) is a dynamic civil legal aid organization serving low-income and elderly people in Central and Western Mass. CLA has over 180 dedicated, talented staff working across multiple offices.
