The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) is seeking an experienced Manager to oversee the Training and Education program for the university’s campus-wide research administration operation. The OVPR oversees the university- wide operational functions and strategic initiatives of CMU’s $620 million research enterprise and associated top-ranked technology transfer and startup activities, which span the university’s academic colleges, research institutes and centers, and the Software Engineering Institute, a federally funded research and development center. The OVPR is a large and complex organization that is responsible for research and innovation strategy, operations, and administration for the university. This position is key to CMU’s ambitious goals to deliver best-in-class research administration services, processes, and systems to the entire campus. Reporting to the Chief Research Operations Officer, the Manager, Training and Educations Program for Research Administration will be part of a matrixed team, collaborating closely with CMU’s Finance Division and Computing Services. This role will be responsible for developing and implementing training and education resources for faculty and staff, including a comprehensive onboarding and upskilling program for college-based research administrators. You will work closely with CMU’s colleges, departments, centers, institutes to ensure that the program is service oriented, engaging, and effective for everyone.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree required.
• 5-8 years of relevant work experience.
• A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a thorough knowledge of applicable laws and regulations, agency policies and guidance, and institutional policies and procedures, impacting the conduct of research administration.
• Develop comprehensive group and individual learning courses focused on research administration topics, including but not limited to, pre-and post-award management, and compliance policies and procedures.
• Develop and coordinate CMU’s research administrator onboarding and upskilling program, including planning and scheduling orientation and education curriculum for on-the-job training.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of the learning courses through assessments and feedback, and continuously improve the programming based on results.
• Assist in the development and implementation of effective learning plans for Research Administration change management strategies.
• Coordinate and manage learning events virtually and in person for small and large groups.
• Oversee the work of instructional designers, and recruit and manage the participation of internal subject matter experts and instructors involved in developing or delivering the programming.
• Engage in outreach and marketing, working with website design and other university support resources to develop and distribute materials.
• Develop methods and tools to support the tracking and completion of required trainings.
• Other duties as assigned.
