As Sustaining Engineering Manager within Inalfa you are in the driver’s seat for Sustaining Operations Management Team. The position will be responsible for the day to day management and technical leadership of the technical engineering department at the Operations site including Manufacturing Engineering, Product Engineering and Controls Engineering. The Sustaining Engineering Manager will be responsible for leading and improving the technical strengths of the engineering department thus ensuring robust designs and processes are in place to meet and exceed internal and external customer expectations. The position will plan, organize, and control all tasks associated with the accomplishment of all sustaining engineering objectives. The position with provide technical guidance to ensure best practices and guidelines are utilized to achieve measurable goals. Reporting directly to the Operations Plant Manager and indirectly to the VP of Engineering, the Sustaining Engineering Manager will work closely with both to cultivate a culture and department performance that will allow the organization to grow and sustain a competitive advantage in the market. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Oversee and manage the day to day engineering activities, ensuring work products are delivered on-time and within budgets. Actively participate and integrate with the NA Operations and Engineering departments to ensure annual goals and objectives are realized. Effectively manage the development and the capabilities of employees in either a technical or managerial role within the organization. Ensure technical issues are resolved in a timely manner and with a cost effective solution. Defines a sustainable competitive advantage that exceeds internal and external customer expectations. Focuses on robust designs, solutions and improvements that result in lower overall life cycle costs and reduced warranty. Manages the development and growth of the overall engineering department through recruiting, onboarding, training, career development and succession planning. Ensures that Inalfa work and component standards are followed at all times including adherence to the Product Realization Plan or PRP. Works closely with global colleagues on technical council objectives that improve our overall technical capabilities. Track the planning documents such as: customer planning, prototype, & test planning Develop and organize needs to meet operations targets (including ERD) Develop & Maintain systems & procedures for continuous improvements internally & globally Develop improved or new designs for automotive sunroof modules and roof systems or modifies existing equipment on production vehicles, and directs building, modification, and testing of products by performing the following duties Ensure the appropriate engineering tools are used throughout the design process, i.e. design standards, DFMEA, design stacks, etc. Support cost reduction activities as appropriate Support Purchasing and SQA with technical input in to supply base issues

Requirements

  • Must have strong product technical experience designing, developing and launching electrical and mechatronic type assemblies for automobiles and light trucks.
  • Must be able to act as the “go to person” for all technical issues related to the electrical engineering disciplines that report to this position.
  • Proven capabilities to be an effective communicator, bridge builder and problem solver internally and externally in front of customers.
  • The ability to organize and manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment.
  • Excellent problem solving skills to analyze solve and drive problems to resolution with a sense of urgency.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills at all levels.
  • High personal and moral integrity that align with the company’s values.
  • Must be able to travel regionally and globally when required.
  • Bachelor degree in Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Five to seven years of engineering management experience with managing managers (people, equipment, resources and budget).
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA or advanced technical degree a plus.
  • Automotive and light truck experience at a Tier 1 supplier to the industry.
