Prosperity: The WBG Prosperity Vice Presidency is responsible for getting the right public and private sector solutions to our operational teams and to our clients, and to produce scalable impact. It leads the WBG’s key global engagements in support of: Growth and jobs (including supporting teams across the WBG on the jobs agenda); debt sustainability and debt management; improved domestic resource mobilization and expenditure efficiency; a resilient and inclusive financial sector; business-enabling policies and regulations; trade policy and facilitation; and transparent, effective, and accountable government institutions world-wide. The Vice Presidency also houses the group that examines the distributional/poverty impacts of all policies. Its mandate is to deliver knowledge for impact to enable and support the WBG to achieve its goals in support of our mission and specifically: providing guidance on creating more and better jobs; supporting foundational infrastructure and human capital, a business-enabling policy environment, and private sector mobilization; focusing on agribusiness, healthcare, infrastructure, manufacturing, and tourism; and support and accelerate corporate targets and commitments. The VPU’s objectives in driving outcomes include replicating and scaling effective solutions, enhancing thought leadership and innovation, and delivering timely knowledge to client teams in the areas of its mandate. Financial Services Sector II Department: The FSS Global Department is comprised of two directorates: FSS I and FSS II. FSS II covers several areas including Banking, Insurance, Housing, SME and Sustainability Finance. The FSS II Global Department is seeking a Manager / Senior Manager to lead the Sustainability Finance Team which draws on experienced professionals focusing on Climate and Banking on Women Finance. The team works with different banking, investors and capital markets participants on designing and implementing financial solutions in their focus areas. WBG Manager/Senior Manager Sustainability Finance: WBG Manager/Senior Manager, will be responsible for leading the Sustainability Finance team in the Prosperity Vice Presidency, and will report to the WBG FSS II Director who is accountable to the WBG Vice President Prosperity. The Department is comprised of 90 staff. Key responsibilities: The WBG Manager / Senior Manager will be responsible for the following functions. Solutions and impact: • Lead and manage the Financial Services Sustainability Finance team to deliver the WBG Vice Presidency and WBG Knowledge Bank Department key strategic priorities including growth objectives development impact. • Collaborate closely with regional teams on leveraging the Knowledge Bank’s expertise in developing priorities and ensures alignment with the WBG Strategy in the focus areas of Climate, sustainability and Banking on Women to deliver desired outcomes. • Work with clients on adopting relevant sustainable finance standards, and that they are in position to track and regularly report to WBG on use of proceeds disbursed through various instruments. • Lead the teams of industry specialists in structuring Climate and Banking on Women projects to ensure adoption and compliance with the relevant standards, and proceeds are used accordingly. • Represent the Department at Investment Review Meetings “IRM”, and clear projects in-line with applicable ADM. • Ensure that the relevant tracking and reporting systems are in place to support tracking and reporting of use of proceeds and outcomes. • Ensure consistency in knowledge sharing and the application of standards across regions to support the implementation of all internal requirements associated with growing business line. • Coordinate with other units within the department and the Prosperity Vice Presidency to ensure the required support to develop new business opportunities and to efficiently manage both new investments as well as the existing portfolio. • Reinforce quality standards in global and regional sectors and products and activities. • Builds and maintains a balanced portfolio of innovative, cost-effective, and demand-driven products and services. • Works in partnership with other managers, as well as public and private stakeholders, to find tailored and holistic solutions to complex operational challenges. • Represent the Department at external events. • Accountable for delivering high-quality and timely results. People/Talent Management: • Models exemplary WBG leadership values and managerial behaviors and reinforces these qualities in own team and staff. • Leads, drives and inspires technical excellence within the team and the Department by creating an environment of learning and innovation that attracts and develops the best talent reflective of the diversity of our clients. • Closely supports and advises staff on their performance, skills development and career planning. Knowledge Management: • Ensures that the Global Department is at the forefront of the development debate and contributes to the global dialogue in the area of expertise of the Finance Directorate. • Promotes innovative and cross-cutting investment and advisory solutions, as well as the dissemination of technical and experiential knowledge and learning. • Help clients scale proven solutions, and design, implement and deliver capacity building programs in areas of climate and gender finance. • Ensures timely flow and capture of knowledge and expertise so that clients receive the highest quality support and knowledge they need, when and where they need it. Resource Management: • In consultation with relevant stakeholders within the WBG, decides on the best use of internal and external resources for maximum client and developmental impact. • Is accountable for delivering the agreed-upon work program through cost-effective use of resources (human and budget) within the agreed parameters and in compliance with internal controls and policies, and ensures timely delivery and overall quality of the unit outputs. Communication • Development and representation of the Global Department 'brand'. • Effective communication to various audiences, including key stakeholders, clients, beneficiaries, general public, internal and external partners .

Requirements

  • In addition to meeting all Bank-wide Grade GH level position criteria (i.e., work in at least two world regions or a combination of regional and corporate assignments is required; field experience is preferred).
  • A Master’s degree in a relevant field including, economic development or related social sciences field, with at least 12 years of relevant experience in positions of increasing complexity and responsibility.
  • Proven operational and development experience, including investments and policy a, with a strong record of delivering complex operations and investment solutions across multiple regions and institutional settings across WBG.
  • Demonstrated leadership and people management skills, including experience managing multi-location and virtual teams, and operating effectively with both formal and matrixed authority
  • Strong strategic orientation and ability to prioritize, streamline, and rationalize activities to maximize impact.
  • Adaptability, flexibility, and ability to lead teams for success during periods of change.
  • Extensive experience working across WBG entities, practices, disciplines, and sectors, and in building partnerships with governments, the private sector, civil society, donors, and research institutions to achieve development results.
  • Excellent communication and representational skills, including proven experience engaging with senior stakeholders, media, and external constituencies.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge and experience in one or more relevant thematic areas is desirable, though strong managerial, coordination, and influencing skills are paramount.
