The purpose of this classification is to develop and lead the County’s sustainability strategy to enhance environmental performance and long-term resilience by directing programs that reduce energy use and waste, expand renewable energy, promote sustainable operations, and ensure regulatory compliance. Essential Functions: The following duties are normal for this position. Other duties may be required and assigned. Manages, directs, and evaluates assigned staff; oversees employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control; reviews timesheets; approves/processes employee concerns and problems and counsels or disciplines as appropriate; completes employee performance appraisals; directs work; acts as a liaison between employees and County administrators and elected officials; and trains staff in operations, policies, and procedures. Develops, manages, and refines the County’s sustainability strategies, goals, and implementation plans; and integrate sustainability principles into County policies, programs, and operations. Oversee initiatives to improve environmental, social, and economic outcomes, including programs for renewable energy, water conservation, waste reduction, sustainable transportation, and resource efficiency; and manages solar energy projects and other renewable energy efforts to support County sustainability goals. Ensures County operations comply with all relevant local, state, and federal environmental laws, standards, and regulations; and serves as the primary point of contact for sustainability-related reporting and audits. Establishes and tracks key performance indicators (KPIs) for sustainability initiatives; and prepares and presents reports on progress, outcomes, and opportunities for improvement to County leadership and governing bodies. Collaborates with internal departments, external agencies, community partners, and other stakeholders to advance shared sustainability objectives; and communicates the County’s sustainability goals and achievements to residents, employees, and the public through reports and outreach initiatives. Identifies, evaluates, and mitigates sustainability-related risks; and assesses and pursues opportunities for cost savings, efficiency, and innovation through sustainable practices. Develops and oversees training programs to promote sustainability awareness and practices among County employees; and fosters a culture of sustainability and continuous improvement across all departments.
