About The Position

The Manager, Software Engineering - Machine Learning & Telemetry Engineering leads and develops a team of machine learning engineers responsible for building, scaling, and maintaining QTS’s telemetry, analytics, automation, and data‑driven product capabilities. This role oversees engineering work that enables automated device configuration, telemetry ingestion pipelines, environmental and fuel calculation logic, system topology modeling, and machine‑learning‑powered insights that support operational excellence across QTS facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Data Science, or equivalent experience.
  • US Citizenship for this position is required by law due to federal customer contracts.
  • 5+ years in ML, data pipelines, backend engineering, or systems integration.
  • 2+ years leading engineers.
  • Experience deploying ML or data‑driven systems to production.
  • Strong architectural and system‑design experience.
  • Proficiency with Python, SQL, APIs, distributed processing.

Nice To Haves

  • 8+ years in ML, data pipelines, backend engineering, or systems integration.
  • Experience with telemetry/SCADA‑adjacent systems.
  • Familiarity with Influx, Grafana, Redis.
  • Experience with cloud‑based (AWS) ML workflows or model governance.
  • Ability to triage issues across data, ML, and infrastructure.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software development and Machine Learning professionals.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee ML, telemetry, automation, and data‑pipeline engineering activities.
  • Manage engineering capacity, performance, and sprint commitments.
  • Oversee ML models, telemetry pipelines, automation workflows, cloud infrastructure and environmental logic.
  • Guide design and implementation of integrations (Influx, Redis, CX Alloy, Oracle/ServiceNow, SCADA APIs).
  • Champion coding best practices, reproducibility, validation, and observability.
  • Maintain engineering documentation and enforce production‑readiness standards.
  • Collaborate with teams across QTS such as FacOps, QTSOS, Facilities, EHS, SCADA/Network teams.
  • Align engineering deliverables with business priorities.
