We are looking for an experienced and driven Software Engineering Manager to work hands-on with an established team. You will stay close to the code... think about 70% coding and 30% project and people management. Bring your coding chops, diligence, and passion for software development. We are specifically looking for someone whose expertise lies primarily in the back end. Please note that candidates must be local to the greater Phoenix, Arizona, area, as this role requires that you come into our offices in Tempe at least 2 times per week. The following list of responsibilities describes the “ideal” candidate in terms of all-around work history. We are not looking for someone who has EVERYTHING. Instead, we are looking for someone who has a lot of what is described below, but - more importantly - adds to our team and complements our team members’ skill sets. Attitude and aptitude count for a lot!

Requirements

  • You've done this before—you have experience in a high-growth startup environment with constant change as your companion; 9+ years of total experience working on an Engineering team… with 4 of those years leading a team using an Agile development process
  • Experience in a multi-tenant SaaS product development environment
  • Experience building data ingestion pipelines
  • Smart, quick learner, proactive, comfortable working with unknowns and dynamically evolving requirements
  • Experience working with User Experience and Product teams to build great user interfaces
  • Proven ability to hire, mentor, coach, and lead a team to success
  • Ability to motivate people, instill accountability and achieve results
  • Expertise in object-oriented design and implementation
  • Strong communication skills
  • We are looking for strong mentors with a proven record of making your team better
  • Experience working with remote teams
  • Authorization to work in the US now and in the future

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building APIs and SDKs is a plus
  • Experience with marketplaces or payments is a plus
  • Experience working with and managing cloud-based infrastructure such as AWS is a plus
  • Experience and knowledge of application development tools and platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, ElasticSearch, MySQL, Git, Jenkins, JIRA) is a big plus
  • Experience with frontend technologies (e.g. React, Angular) is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Drive the execution and delivery of product features by collaborating with cross-functional teams
  • Work collaboratively with product managers to own and manage a rapidly evolving product roadmap that delivers on company goals.
  • Lead key engineering initiatives to improve overall engineering effectiveness and productivity
  • Iteratively define and refine development processes and engineering best practices as the team grows
  • Work in an agile, small team environment focusing on speed and quality
  • Be a trusted partner for senior management to determine the best solutions, help drive alignment and implement decisions throughout your team
