About The Position

Myriad Genetics, Inc. is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to contribute to the delivery of innovative products that enable patients to make life-changing decisions. The company specializes in genetic screening and testing, providing actionable insights through molecular diagnostic tests for various diseases including hereditary cancer, urological cancer, and depression. The software automation team, which this role would lead, is responsible for building software tools to support a highly automated production sequencing lab. This involves close collaboration with hardware engineers and molecular biology scientists to develop automated workcells using advanced industrial and lab automation equipment. The software supports the simultaneous processing of thousands of samples across multiple workflows, with workcells operating 24/7. Requirements

  • 1-2+ years leading engineering teams.
  • Proven ability to set technical direction, hit milestones, and motivate team members.
  • 4–6 years of professional Python experience with strong backend development focus (preferably FastAPI or django).
  • Experience in system, serverless and cloud architecture (AWS, k8s).
  • Experience with production data pipelines.
  • Experience in enterprise software engineering and complex technical landscapes.
  • Skilled at breaking down technical complexity for non-technical stakeholders and partnering with product managers.
  • Advocates for good development practices, continuous integration, rigorous testing, and demonstrates high agency and accountability.
  • Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or national, or a U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder) living full time in the USA.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior success with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
  • Some experience working in life sciences.
  • Ideally have a genetics background of some kind.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, manage, motivate, and mentor a small team of talented engineers (4-6 direct reports estimated). Lead by example.
  • Architect and implement LIMS integrations and laboratory software automation to support laboratory workflows for multiple products across multiple lab locations.
  • Partner with lab leadership, software managers, and engineers to deliver scalable solutions that meet lab needs.
  • Define technical specifications, enforce best practices in CI/CD, automated testing pipelines to reduce manual testing for integrations, and ship high quality code.
  • Write and run validation plans with technical stakeholders for the development of clinical products and pipelines.
  • Focus the team on high-impact work and remove distractions.
