About The Position

The Social Impact Manager plays a critical role in the future of Avista and the communities we serve. This is a highly cross-functional role that requires close partnership across internal and external teams to determine and understand organizational and community priorities. Responsibilities include devising, driving, and delivering on social impact strategic goals and portfolio of initiatives across the company and throughout our communities. The Social Impact Manager will ensure focus on community development and engagement key pillars, while working collaboratively throughout Avista's business units to deliver on our existing company priorities, including our affordability strategy. This role will manage the operation and execution of Named Communities Investment Fund, establishing a communication, application, review/approval, and delivery plan in accordance with Clean Energy Implementation Plan requirements and ensure proper documentation for regulatory filings. They will manage and provide leadership to the Avista Foundation, energy assistance, community outreach, and volunteer engagement. This role will work in partnership with the Customer Engagement Manager for Named Communities, Energy Efficiency, and the Equity Advisor Group, amongst other departments engaged in Avista's Clean Energy and EPIC strategy. The position will partner with and serve as a strategic advisor to Executive Leadership. They will be responsible for delivering on our legacy of community investment, integrating and leveraging funding sources, scaling existing social and environmental impact programs, and remaining committed to integrating equity into our efforts, all while honoring state, federal and regulatory mandates such as Clean Energy Transformation Act.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university in business administration, communication, public relations or related field.
  • 7 years of experience working in strategic initiatives, community programs, economic development or a related field is required.
  • Must possess a collaborative spirit and ability to work within a team across a diverse set of perspectives.
  • Knowledge and passion for community vitality outcomes.
  • Ability to create and maintain sustainable long-term relationships with community members.
  • Knowledge of regulatory, state and federal requirements impacting environmental, social and community involvement initiatives
  • Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Develops goals, actions, budget, partnerships, assessment framework and other necessary resources used to enact and measure positive change that is sustainable and innovative in order to build repeatable, scalable programs that leverage our capital, product, and people time to meet our community impact objectives.
  • Develops and implements pivotal initiatives, sustainable investment opportunities and planning related to corporate citizenship, including Avista's foundation and various community impact programs.
  • Creates inclusive plans, programs and meaningful engagement opportunities to educate employees and community partners about Avista's social impact programs and to motivate active engagement with and participation in these programs within the communities we serve.
  • Manages relationship strategy from prospecting through cultivation, solicitation, engagement, recognition, and stewardship to maintain partnerships with a community portfolio. Maintains strong partnerships and enables organizations to use the company for good.
  • Advises and collaborates with leadership to develop and implement a comprehensive multi-year, development strategy and plan including donations, planned giving, major gifts, events, the Named Communities Investment Fund and energy assistance support.
  • Maintains compliance and integrity in grant funding and fiscal systems by ensuring adherence to all regulatory, state and federal requirements and guidelines.
  • Manages personnel including hiring, performance management, coaching, employee engagement, continuous education, training, and development.
  • Ensures activities, services and/or products are compliant with applicable regulations, rules, policies and procedures.
  • Fosters a positive and supportive work environment; promotes inclusion and belonging in the workplace; and contributes to an environment of mutual respect.
