About The Position

The Manager, Shopify Development, will lead the technical development, optimization, and performance of all Basic Research DTC websites. This role is responsible for managing front-end Shopify development, improving site performance, delivering high-quality builds, and ensuring flawless execution of site updates, promotions, and new feature enhancements. The Manager will oversee developers, own the code review and QA process, and partner closely with Marketing and Creative to bring high-converting, mobile-first experiences to life. This role ensures our Shopify ecosystem is fast, stable, scalable, and optimized for both customer experience and business performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Web Development, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of Shopify front-end development experience, including Liquid, HTML, CSS, JavaScript.
  • Deep expertise building high-converting Shopify stores, custom themes, and reusable components.
  • Proficiency with Git, version control workflows, and development-to-production pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of site performance optimization, Core Web Vitals, and responsive design.
  • Experience integrating Shopify apps, APIs, and custom solutions.
  • Strong troubleshooting ability with proven success resolving theme, app, and integration issues.
  • Experience managing developers or cross-functional technical projects.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of GA4, Shopify Analytics, and attribution tools preferred.
  • Experience in beauty, wellness, or supplements is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead front-end Shopify development across multiple DTC brand sites (SeroVital, Novex Biotech, Zantrex, etc.).
  • Own theme development, custom Liquid builds, template updates, and reusable component creation.
  • Ensure all web builds adhere to modern coding standards, accessibility requirements, and brand guidelines.
  • Manage all web development tasks, timelines, and deployment schedules.
  • Oversee code reviews, QA testing, and cross-browser/device validation before publishing to production.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues quickly to minimize downtime or conversion impact.
  • Partner with Ecommerce Director to ensure staging → production workflows are clean, documented, and predictable.
  • Improve site speed, Core Web Vitals, Lighthouse scores, and overall site reliability.
  • Optimize images, scripts, apps, and theme architecture to ensure fast load times and seamless UX.
  • Implement performance monitoring tools and maintain a consistent optimization roadmap.
  • Build new pages, PDP templates, landing pages, and interactive site features.
  • Integrate third-party tools (apps, APIs, subscriptions, reviews, quizzes, bundling, personalization tools).
  • Translate wireframes and designs into pixel-perfect, responsive web experiences.
  • Work closely with Marketing, Creative, Retention, and Marketplace teams to support campaigns, launches, and UX improvements.
  • Translate business requirements into clean technical specs for internal and external developers.
  • Partner with Customer Support to diagnose and resolve customer-facing site issues.
  • Manage contract developers or agency partners as needed.
  • Set coding standards, development processes, and best practices.
  • Train internal staff on Shopify workflows, theme structure, and development tools.
