About The Position

The Revenue Recovery Manager is a strategic and operational leader within Ovation’s RCM’s high-impact Revenue Recovery team. This role is responsible for overseeing all activities related to technical denials, underpayment recovery, and revenue integrity support for our Insource hospital clients. The Manager ensures timely and accurate resolution of accounts, drives process standardization, and partners closely with internal and client stakeholders to reduce preventable revenue leakage. This leader is accountable for team performance, workflow optimization, analytics interpretation, and the continuous evolution of best practices across the revenue recovery function. The ideal candidate is both a hands- on subject matter expert and a people-focused leader able to translate complex RCM challenges into actionable improvement strategies.

Requirements

  • Experience working within major hospital host systems (Epic, Meditech, Cerner)
  • Advanced understanding of hospital billing requirements, payer policies, and reimbursement methodologies (DRG, APC, percent-of-charge, carve-outs)
  • Strong leadership ability with proven experience influencing team performance and accountability
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize complex data into actionable insights
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills for payer and client interactions
  • Proficiency in workflow management tools, denial analytics platforms, and Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, power queries)
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, Business, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in healthcare revenue cycle management, with deep expertise in hospital AR follow-up, denial management, and billing processes
  • At least 2 years of experience in a supervisory, team lead, or management role, with a proven ability to train, mentor, and lead a team
  • Experience working in an outsourced RCM or vendor environment
  • Direct experience with underpayment analysis and recovery
  • Familiarity with "Pulse" platform or similar workflow management tools
  • Proficiency with revenue cycle management software and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel)
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and with client stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of Revenue Recovery Specialists to meet defined KPIs around denial resolution, underpayment recovery, and productivity
  • Foster a culture of ownership, transparency, and continuous improvement
  • Conduct structured performance evaluations, create development plans, and support professional growth in advanced denial management, root-cause analysis, payer behavior, and contract interpretation
  • Establish daily/weekly huddles, quality reviews, and feedback loops to maintain alignment and consistency.
  • Oversee the end-to-end recovery lifecycle using the 'Pulse' platform, ensuring timely identification, routing, and resolution of denials and underpayments
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex technical denials, including billing errors, invalid modifiers, frequency issues, and payer processing inaccuracies
  • Maintain strong coordination with the Clinical Review team to ensure appropriate and timely handoff of clinical denials
  • Create, refine, and audit standard operating procedures (SOPs), ensuring adherence across the team
  • Partner with Coding, Billing, Cash Posting, and Payer Enrollment to resolve system-level issues
  • Develop and interpret dashboards for denial trends, recovery volumes, productivity, and payer behavior
  • Identify payer-specific root causes and translate findings into prevention strategies
  • Collaborate with the AVP, Revenue Recovery to present client performance reviews
  • Work with Business Enablement and Contracting teams to align underpayment recovery
  • Develop prevention insights to help clients reduce future denials
