The Manager, Freight Forwarding Operations is responsible for managing the daily activities of the Freight Forwarding branch operations, including import, export, and domestic shipments (air, ocean, and ground as applicable). This role provides direct leadership to Supervisors and operations staff, ensuring compliant execution of shipments, high service quality, operational efficiency, and profitability at the branch level. The Operations Manager acts as an operational leader within the branch, ensuring smooth coordination between Operations, Sales, Customs, Warehouse, Carriers, and Customers while maintaining adherence to regulatory requirements and company standards. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on execution, productivity, and branch performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (Supply Chain, Logistics, Business or related field)
  • Minimum 7–10 years of recent Freight Forwarding experience (air & ocean required)
  • Minimum 3–5 years of leadership experience within Freight Forwarding operations
  • Strong import/export regulatory knowledge required

Responsibilities

  • Manage the daily operations of the Freight Forwarding branch, overseeing air and ocean import/export activities to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant shipment execution
  • Ensure full compliance with U.S. Customs, international trade regulations, TSA/FMC/IATA requirements, customer SOPs, and company policies
  • Oversee preparation and accuracy of all shipping documentation including commercial invoices, Bills of Lading, Air Waybills, HTS classifications, AES filings, and related import/export documentation
  • Monitor shipment milestones and operational KPIs to ensure on-time performance, data accuracy, and service reliability
  • Act as the primary escalation point for operational issues, resolving service failures, customs delays, documentation discrepancies, carrier performance concerns, and system disruptions
  • Provide direct leadership to Operations Supervisors and staff, managing workload distribution, staffing alignment, productivity expectations, and performance management
  • Recruit, train, coach, and develop team members while ensuring adherence to company procedures and regulatory standards
  • Partner with Sales and Branch leadership to support operational execution of new business, customer onboarding, and ongoing service performance
  • Monitor file-level profitability and branch operational costs, ensuring margin protection, accurate billing, and timely cost accruals
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through routing optimization, carrier selection, workflow improvements, and process standardization
  • Maintain freight security standards and ensure compliance with quality, environmental, health, and safety policies
  • Lead corrective action plans and continuous improvement initiatives to address recurring service, compliance, or operational performance issues
