Purpose: The Delivery Unit (DU) is accountable for operational delivery of the Clinical Portfolio from Early Discovery to Submission and Approval. The Manager, Portfolio & Business Operations Leader (Oncology) sits within a DU and is accountable for leading and managing portfolio centric and business operations activity to keep the portfolio and DU operating at its fullest potential. This role supports both portfolio activities (governance administration, process administration related to governance, change orders, metric assembly/reporting, and data analytics) and business operations activities (can include: resource management, business performance, continuous improvement, management of sponsorships/key alliances, and training) in partnership with the Therapeutic Areas to deliver the portfolio. The Manager, Portfolio & Business Operations Leader (Oncology) will partner closely across J&J IM R&D functions, such as Therapeutic Area (TA), Delivery Units, Finance, Quality, Capacity Management, and Business Growth, Innovation & Advocacy, HCC, among other partner functions. They will also partner externally with select vendors and service providers to support investment/capability projects and/or partners for sustaining alliances.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree is required
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams and/or leading large projects
  • Working knowledge of drug development and/or clinical operations (i.e. trial management, project management, business operations, data analytics)
  • Ability to mine data and synthesize cogently for analysis and display purposes
  • The ability to multi-task, work with minimal supervision, and achieve results in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to derive insights and make data-driven decisions
  • Exceptional collaboration and communication skills
  • Overall generalist disposition and entrepreneurial self-starter mindset

Responsibilities

  • Governance Administration: Collaborate with the BOH (Business Operations Head), TA, DU DAS leaders and others to manage operational governance. This may include facilitating governance discussions (i.e.- OORM, Deep Dive, CRSG,) recapping/summary notes, partnering with DU, TA, and other functions to improve outcomes and drive efficiency, identify trends/practices that can improve the quality of discussions.
  • Portfolio & Performance Management: Partner closely with DU and TA stakeholders to cultivate a working knowledge of the portfolio (programs, projects) to better support the DU mission. Partner closely with the TA to help deliver discreet portfolio centric activities (i.e.- prioritization, scorecard development) to improve performance outcomes.
  • Business Operations: Facilitate and manage DU operational activities in partnership with DU and GD organizations on behalf of the TA. This includes activities such as 1supply maintenance & reporting, overall DU resource and budget performance management, DU communications, training/compliance, and act as gatekeeper of key processes intended to improve performance w/n the DU. Perform gatekeeping activities on system management (in concert w/ clinical PM team) and works to maintain a solid operating environment (e.g. Planisware, 1-supply, Resource Allocation Management, Beacon etc.) Provides advice and solutions to guide others and to shape future deployment of these tools to meet DU & TA needs.
  • Data Insights/Analysis: Provide in depth analytical insights using advanced tools to help identify areas of improvement, and precipitate the identification of future project activities and efforts. Ability to wire together disparate data and insights to bring together in a singular cogent picture with storytelling will be required.
  • Continuous Improvement Management: Act as business owner for assigned processes. Coordinate the identification, prioritization, tracking, and reporting of improvement initiatives. May drive initiatives to streamline operational workflows, enhance efficiencies, and drive continuous improvement within DU and TA.
  • Problem Solver: Provide additional support to teams, collaborations, and/or projects as business needs evolve. Work proactively to assess opportunities for increased efficiency in the DU and TA, propose, and implement new solutions.
  • Metric Reporting: Provide support in assembling key KPIs to support metric reporting/display, and be poised to collaborate w/ partners throughout R&D to support data requests/queries.
  • Special Projects: This role may serve, depending on development desires & capabilities, a need to support specialized projects in the pursuit of larger DU/TA centric project missions (i.e.- Sponsorships.)

  • Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
