About The Position

Position Summary: The Manager, Pharmacy Procurement is responsible for the operational leadership, administrative oversight, and systemwide coordination of all medication procurement, inventory management, and pharmaceutical financial stewardship functions across UCI Health, including acute and non-acute patient care settings. The incumbent is accountable for managing pharmaceutical sourcing, purchasing, and distribution activities to ensure a safe, reliable, and cost-effective medication supply, including oversight of vendor relationships, group purchasing organization participation, wholesaler agreements, local contract negotiations, and monitoring of purchase trends, utilization, and pricing to support cost management and supply chain performance. This role maintains responsibility for managing drug shortages by developing mitigation strategies and coordinating therapeutic substitutions to maintain continuity of patient care, and ensures compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements related to pharmaceutical procurement and distribution, including the Drug Supply Chain Security Act. The Manager provides direct oversight across all assigned functional areas, actively precepts pharmacy residents, students, and interns, and serves as a Direct Care Provider as defined in Pharmacy Policy. This position collaborates with pharmacy leadership, ambulatory clinic leadership, and key health system stakeholders to evaluate medication availability, safety, and utilization in support of formulary decisions and new medication requests. The Manager exercises independent judgment in managing day-to-day procurement operations, coworker scheduling, and the execution of established pharmacy procurement and supply chain program objectives.

Requirements

  • Pharm.D. from an accredited school of pharmacy
  • Must demonstrate customer service and teamwork skills appropriate to the job
  • Minimum five years of clinical experience as a licensed pharmacist, or two years’ experience & completion of a general practice Pharmacy Residency
  • Minimum four years of clinical experience as a licensed pharmacist, or two years experience & a Residency
  • Knowledge and abilities necessary for the successful performance of the duties assigned to the positionStrong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills, including verbal and written communication.
  • Experience in procurement or supply chain management within the healthcare sector
  • Excellent planning, organization and time management skills
  • Demonstrate clear, concise verbal and written communication skills
  • Current BLS or ACLS certification
  • CA Board of Pharmacy Registered Pharmacist licensure in good standing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
  • Must be able to provide proof of work authorization

  • Significant experience (more than 2 years) developing and implementing drug utilization programs for both inpatient and outpatient populations

  • Board Certification in Pharmacotherapy or other specialty clinical field
