About The Position

Role Purpose: We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Manager to join our Finance team. This role is responsible for the overall supervision of all processes for US transit services payroll.  This includes the oversight of the preparation and computation of accurate payroll and personnel records, as well as processing accurate and timely payment of salaries and wages while in compliance with company and state regulations in addition to ensuring payroll expenses and taxes are paid accurately and on time. This role will supervise the corporate payroll team and liaise with other professionals. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in multi-state payroll compliance and a passion for operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years of payroll experience, with a strong focus on compliance and process improvement.
  • Proven experience managing payroll operations across multiple states.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel to all company locations as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Union payrolls highly preferred
  • Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation is preferred.
  • Experience processing payroll in all 50 U.S. states and US territories preferred.
  • Familiarity with payroll systems and reporting tools, UKG and Work Force Management (WFM) strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and direct all payroll processing, related transactions, and procedures for US transit business
  • Ensure strict adherence to local, state, federal laws, taxes, and Union agreements
  • Develop project management plans and delivery timelines
  • Frequent coordination and collaboration with multi-departmental working groups, including HR and Finance
  • Monitoring performance and delivery timelines of key identified processes
  • Educate, mentor, and train employees on payroll processes and compliance expectations
  • Ensure analysis of trends and systemic issues. Advise an recommend on action plans
  • Accountable for collecting and responding to day-to-day procedural questions; prioritize work and ensure responses to business are timely and accurate
  • Internal and external reporting to stakeholders with awareness of business priorities
  • Identify opportunities to reduce risk and increase business performance through standardization and continuous monitoring practices
  • Ensure initial timecard configurations adhere to internal controls and company policies.
  • Travel to new business sites to conduct payroll training
  • Lead initiatives and projects to streamline and enhance payroll processes and systems.
  • Provide training and guidance to payroll staff on compliance and process improvements.
  • Travel to various company locations as needed to support payroll operations and compliance efforts.
  • Frequent reporting through UKG Business Intelligence
  • Maintenance of accurate payroll records and reports
  • Data entry and data cleanup as necessary
  • Support corporate staff with routine payroll needs
  • Other administrative duties may be assigned
