GENERAL DUTIES Oversight of the Program: - Manages the patient safety program including ensuring compliance with state, local regulations and national patient safety goals. - Consults and collaborates with the leadership with regard to new initiatives and/or significant changes in policies. - Maintains the patient safety program written plan, proposes amendments in accordance with regulatory requirements and the needs of the organization and obtains input from all levels from multiple levels of the organization. - Ensures the patient safety plan and other associated policies are reviewed, approved by appropriate Committees and Board of Directors at defined intervals. Patient Safety: - Oversees, maintains and supports mechanisms and processes for reporting and addressing patient safety events. - Oversees daily surveillance of reported errors and events. Investigates and addresses patient safety issues as indicated. - Guides managers/appropriate staff in responding to patient safety issues as necessary. Patient Safety Analysis: - Conducts preliminary investigations of unanticipated or adverse patient safety events or other related events and reports findings to the leaders and appropriate team members. - Facilitates root cause analyses (RCAs) utilizing organizational tools, processes and participates and assists in the coordination of root cause analysis (RCA) teams. - Leads and/or coordinates the annual Failure Mode Analysis (FMEA) including identifying an appropriate topic, FMEA Team coordination, preparation of documents and reports as required. Facilitate Change: Recommends, facilitates and implements change within the organization to improve safety, based on identified risks. Serves as resource to departments on issues of patient safety. Communication, Education and Budget: - Designs and implements educational presentations that facilitate understanding and implementation of patient safety standards. - Works with the leader(s) in the development and maintenance of an internal hospital communication system for patient safety alerts. - Develops an annual patient safety education plan for the organization. - Assists the leaders in finalizing the departmental budget. Requirements

  • 3 years Healthcare
  • Bachelor's Degree Nursing
  • Certification Name: Certified Professional in Patient Safety
  • Issuer: Institute for Healthcare Improvement
  • Licensure Specialty: Specialty Certification
  • Certification Name: Registered Nursing License Required
  • Issuer: Louisiana State Board of Nursing
  • Licensure Specialty: Licensure
  • Knowledge of functional medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of hospital applications, as applicable, for data entry, report/document development and report generation.
  • Knowledge and/or familiarity with HIPAA regulations as they pertain to privacy and security of protected health information.
  • Knowledge and/or familiarity with regulatory requirements such as The Joint Commission Standards, CMS, LDH regulations, state and federal regulatory agency requirements standards and regulations. Willingness to seek additional education in this area if needed.
  • Independent judgment and clear decision-making ability.
  • Capacity to effectively lead interdisciplinary teams and work groups.
  • Some knowledge of project management techniques.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to adapt to changing priorities and aggressive project deadlines.
  • Familiarity with MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Willingness to seek additional education in this area if needed.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain standards of performance under changing conditions.
  • Ability to disseminate information effectively, independently with all managers’ staff in a professional and collaborative manner.
  • Experience working in an organization/community with a diverse patient population, workforce and medical staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree Nursing
  • Familiarity of Performance Improvement methodologies to include team building, intense analysis techniques and gap analysis strategies preferred.
  • Willingness to seek additional education in this area if needed.
