Job Summary Summary: Responsible for the daily operations of the department and the supervision of staff. Supervises and coordinates the daily technical tasks of reprocessing medical and surgical equipment to ensure items are assembled in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician [CRCST] - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) required
  • Central Processing Sterilization Experience 3-5 years required
  • Supervisory Experience 3-5 years required
  • Complete knowledge of clinical operations, hospital mission and goals, and human resources policies and procedures.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to multitask, delegate appropriately, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to provide direction and development to employees by coaching, identifying training needs, assigning progressively challenging projects, and assisting in career development planning.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems in a systematic, logical, and timely manner.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in daily routine.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office applications and instrument tracking systems; ability to learn additional software as required.
  • Works within legal, regulatory, accreditation and ethical practice standards relevant to the position: follow safe practices required for the position; complies with appropriate policies and procedures; fulfills any training required; brings potential matters of non-compliance to the attention of the supervisor or other appropriate hospital staff.
  • Expert knowledge of endoscope reprocessing including a thorough understanding of AAMI ST91, ST79 and ST58.
  • Subject matter expert in the use of Medivator AERs.
  • Experienced in building and implementing guided workflows in SPM.
  • Exceptional organizational, operations, emotional intelligence, critical thinking and problem-solving skills are essential.
  • Demonstrates considerable written and verbal communication skills in English as an essential function of the job.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand medical terminology in order to follow written instructions and complete various forms and records regarding equipment processing and preparation of equipment.
  • Must have working knowledge of computer programs; proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and exposure to instrument tracking software.
  • Ability to multi-task is critical.
  • Must be able to show initiative and the ability to prioritize workloads in high pressure/high stress situations.
  • Maintains CRCST certification (through IAHCSMM or ASHCSP boards) by accumulating at least 12 CEU credits per year.

  • Existing knowledge of EPIC preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the daily operations of the department and the supervision of staff.
  • Supervises and coordinates the daily technical tasks of reprocessing medical and surgical equipment to ensure items are assembled in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Identifies conflict and initiates plan for resolution.
  • Identifies and utilizes appropriate channels for problem-solving.

  • Responsible for the management and oversight of all endoscope reprocessing operations across all three shifts and multiple BWH-Main Campus work locations.
  • Responsible for the ownership, maintenance and management of the Endoscope Reprocessing space, including material availability, staff safety, cleanliness and equipment function.
  • Proactively assists in the development of compliant workflows for Cidex OPA, AERs and all related high-level disinfection functions.
  • Works closely with the Data & Inventory team and Biomedical Engineering teams to facilitate the repair, replacement and inventory of endoscopes and similar products.
  • Works with vendors and OR Nursing to identify product recalls, record notification and tracking patient use as needed.
  • Partners with Endoscopy unit to address product and customer service needs.
  • Ownership of the process challenge workflows and devices; participates in the testing and culturing of endoscopes.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of training and orientation for endo technicians.
  • Regularly audits production records and logs in SPM and AER’s to ensure user compliance.
  • Participates in the development of department in-services as appropriate.
  • Flexibility to assist other HLD sites as needed.
  • Demonstrates leadership skills by consistently using problem solving and conflict management skills.
  • Consistently applies standards and fosters a work environment in which employees are supported and productive.
  • Promotes and supports the team approach to departmental functions, coordinates efforts and activities with other department supervisors to maximize results.

  • Regularly evaluates product inventory to meet the changing needs of the OR.
  • Works closely with CSPS colleagues and OR Nursing leaders to evaluate trending unmet instrument and supply needs, sourcing alternate product or sterilization method when appropriate.
  • Responsible for hiring/personnel decisions, and performance management of employees.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Materials Management.
  • Assists with inventories as needed and initiates in-house or outside orders in accordance with established par levels, whenever needed.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of inventory control practices through stock rotation and removal of expired items from inventory.
  • Participates in consolidation and standardization of supplies and equipment for the department.
  • Responsible for ensuring damaged items are passed on to appropriate repair process.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in all functions and tasks of the Central Sterile Processing and Operating Room etiquette.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with departmental, organizational, and national standards.
  • Oversees and assures daily quality assurance monitoring systems (i.e., biological test reading). Maintains proper documentation in accordance with the regulatory agencies and departmental protocols. Acts appropriately on results (i.e., load recall) and arranges for equipment repairs as needed.
  • Performs all other duties as needed.
