About The Position

The Manager of Undergraduate Advising in the CU Denver Business School plays a pivotal role in advancing and supporting student success across undergraduate programs. This full-time professional exempt position provides leadership and direct supervision to a team of Undergraduate Academic Advisors, ensuring high-quality advising services for students pursuing undergraduate business degrees. Grounded in a philosophy of student development, the Manager collaborates with advisors to deliver advising in both individual and group settings that promotes academic progress, engagement, and retention. The role also works closely with the Associate Dean of Student Success and Discipline Directors to guide curriculum development, implement program enhancements, and support a positive student experience.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business, public administration, education, communications, counseling, psychology, sociology, liberal arts, or other related fields.
• Four (4) years of higher education experience advising or counseling students.
• Substitution\: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.

Nice To Haves

• Master's degree in business, public administration, education, communications, counseling, psychology, sociology, liberal arts or other related fields.
• Five (5) years of higher education experience in advising or counseling students.
• Experience with student information systems, such as Slate, SIS, EAB/Navigate etc. are a plus.
• Related professional experience as a manager or supervisor.
• Experience with Student Information Systems such as CU-SIS.
• Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in student advising and retention.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to present to large groups.
• Ability to work well with others and be team oriented.
• Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision.
• Ability to be self-motivated and show attention to detail.
• Ability to lead, supervise and motivate a team of professional advisors.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and lead team of undergraduate academic advisors; organize and lead weekly team meetings.
• Address escalated student concerns on behalf of the undergraduate advising department.
• Assess advising effectiveness through student feedback, metrics and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Establish best practices for undergraduate advisors to provide top level student services inclusive of socioemotional support and holistic advising.
• Prepare reports and presentations on undergraduate advising as needed.
• Serve as campus liaison for undergraduate information.
• Responsible for debriefing the Associate Dean and Undergraduate advising team on campus updates and priorities.
• Serve on University and/or Business School Committees as requested or needed for the position.
• Work with campus departments to ensure that the Business School is actively participating in campus initiatives such as orientation, degree audit, transfer articulation agreements with community colleges and four-year universities, retention, probation, and graduation.
• Oversee orientation operations to include scheduling and logistics and assigning advisors to each orientation session
• Oversee academic systems, including prerequisite validation and Navigate360 case management reporting, to support accurate enrollment and proactive student outreach.
• Develop, negotiate, and implement changes to degree plans with faculty discipline directors to ensure accuracy and maintain the integrity of the Business School undergraduate programs.
• Help communicate and promote new courses, programs, and opportunities for students through newsletter communications to students
• Serve as liaison for faculty and discipline directors to advisors as well
• Serve and/or delegate, as Undergraduate Advising representative for larger Business School student success area and work collaboratively with other units
• Provide training to team when necessary or appropriate
• Collaborate with other student success departments and Associate Dean on new programs, events, and opportunities for student engagement
• Serve as academic advisor for undergraduate students throughout their academic journey, including transfer evaluations, course selection and registration.
• Advise special populations and re-enrollment students, including academic probation, monitoring and suspended students.
• Support Express Advising and drop in advising sessions.
• Oversee academic standing and student intervention process to include\: ASM holds, academic monitoring holds, academic warning holds and suspension.
• Develop advising resources and facilitate the dissemination of information for sessions and workshops for traditional, non-traditional, veteran and international graduate students.
• Utilize technology extensively to support and implement the school’s advising model including systems such as EAB/Navigate, CUSIS, and the degree audit system.
• Refer students to Associate Dean and/or appropriate campus resources for assistance with disability resources & services, academic and personal issues and other university-related concerns.
