About The Position

The Manager of Safety & Security leads the Agency mission to protect clients, staff, visitors, and organizational assets. In partnership with the Vice President of Operations, the Manager of Safety & Security is responsible for the oversight of organizational safety operations, environment of care, emergency preparedness, business continuity plans, and security operations. The Manager is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive safety and security strategy that ensures compliance with healthcare regulations and fosters a secure environment for all stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 3-5 years’ management experience in healthcare safety or regulatory roles.
  • Experience managing hospital security operations and regulatory compliance.
  • Skilled in crisis management, risk assessment, and complex security issues.
  • Knowledgeable in hospital security protocols, environment of care safety, emergency preparedness, business continuity planning.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills for collaboration with and across departments.
  • Experience working with contract security and vendor management.
  • Must pass Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), and Community Care Licensing (CCL) background clearance.
  • Valid California Driver’s license.
  • TB clearance.
  • Driving record acceptable for coverage by Gateways insurance carrier

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in healthcare security and advance safety/security training preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead security and safety strategies aligned with healthcare regulations, accreditation and contract requirements, and organizational goals.
  • Supervise the organization’s safety and security team.
  • Oversee contracted security operations, act as the primary contact regarding security matters, and lead responses to security incidents.
  • Oversee emergency preparedness, emergency operations, and business continuity planning for all sites, including Main Hospital.
  • Coordinate with local law enforcement, emergency services, and regulatory agencies during crises.
  • Serve as a member of the Safety Committee and support Safety Committee activities in collaboration with the Environment of Care Coordinator.
  • Collaborate with clinical leadership and the Quality Improvement Department to integrate safety considerations into the environment of care and operational planning.
  • Develop and enforce organization’s safety and security policies and procedures.
  • Ensure policies are regularly reviewed and communicated across clinical and non-clinical departments.
  • Oversee implementation and maintenance of security systems, including surveillance, and access control for restricted areas, in partnership with the Information Technology Department.
  • Stay updated on emerging healthcare security technologies and integrate relevant advancements.
  • Oversee parking operations, including issuing parking permits at relevant Gateways’ locations.
  • Collaborate with relevant staff to conduct ongoing Security Risk Assessment and Hazard Vulnerability Analysis; recommend and implement solutions to risks and vulnerabilities.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources Department regarding any employee safety or security incidents.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations (e.g., Accreditation Commission for Health Care, Cal/OSHA, CMS) and state/federal laws.
  • Prepare and present security reports to Agency Committees and regulatory bodies.
  • Provide support during audits and surveys as needed (e.g., CCL, ACHC, CMS, Cal/OSHA, DPH.)
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
