About The Position

The Manager of Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) Training & Education for the Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) (which includes the MSHS and the Faculty Practice Plan) is responsible for the strategic development, implementation, and oversight of comprehensive training programs for all revenue cycle staff across the academic health system. This role ensures that all team members involved in patient registration, billing, claims processing, denial management, and collections are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to maximize revenue, ensure regulatory compliance, and enhance the patient financial experience. The Manager will collaborate closely with RCM leadership, clinical operations, IT, and compliance departments to align training initiatives with the organization's goals and evolving healthcare regulations. The Manager partners closely with executive leadership, operational teams, and finance to ensure that revenue cycle operations meet the highest standards of performance, compliance, and patient-centered service. The Manager of RCM Training & Education plays a critical leadership role in advancing Mount Sinai Health System’s mission of delivering exceptional patient care by ensuring the efficiency, financial strength, and operational excellence of our enterprise Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) function. The Manager will partner cross-functionally with internal RCM leaders, IT, and external partners to support enterprise revenue cycle transformation initiatives. The Manager will report to the Director of RCM Training & Education.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, Business Administration, Finance, or related field required.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in revenue cycle operations within a hospital or large health system.
  • Minimum of 5 years of management or supervisory experience, preferably in an education or training capacity within a large healthcare system.
  • Proven ability to prepare and deliver high-impact executive presentations and reports.
  • Demonstrated success in a large not-for-profit/academic health system facility or multi-entity revenue cycle environment.
  • Deep familiarity with Full End-to-End RCM, EHR/EMR systems (e.g., Epic), and business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Microsoft Excel). Ideally across HB and PB spectrums.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience working with senior management and other leaders, along with the ability to communicate concepts to others without an IT background.
  • Strong leadership skills to motivate cross-departmental teams’ performance towards excellence using team concepts and consensus-building management styles.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage in positive, powerful persuasion with individuals or groups with diverse opinions and/ or agendas, leading to outcomes that meet identified goals.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex problems necessary to develop and administer multifaceted revenue processes, regardless of whether issues originate in an area under direct or indirect control.
  • Ability to enlist cooperation and build teams committed to carrying out initiatives in environments that may be resistant to change and not under the incumbent’s direct authority.

Responsibilities

  • Operational Excellence
  • Curriculum Development and Implementation: Design, develop, and implement a structured, competency-based RCM training curriculum covering all aspects of the revenue cycle, from patient access to collections. This includes Technology-Enabled learning and Gamification.
  • Needs Assessment and Gap Analysis: Conduct regular skills assessments to identify knowledge gaps and training priorities across different departments and roles within the RCM function.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Proactively stay informed of and integrate all relevant federal, state, and payer-specific billing and compliance regulations (e.g., HIPAA, Medicare, Medicaid) into all training programs.
  • Training Delivery Methods: Develop a variety of learning pathways, including online modules, hands-on workshops, and mentorship programs, to accommodate diverse learning styles and schedules.
  • Performance Monitoring and Evaluation: Establish clear performance metrics and assessment intervals to track the effectiveness of training programs and measure improvements in key RCM performance indicators (KPIs) such as denial rates, clean claim rates, and days in accounts receivable.
  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong, collaborative relationships with RCM leaders, IT, finance, and clinical department heads to ensure alignment of training programs with operational needs and system-wide priorities.
  • Team Leadership: Hire, train, mentor, and provide guidance to a team of RCM education specialists and trainers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
  • System Optimization: Work with RCM systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner) and IT teams to ensure training is aligned with system functionalities and to identify opportunities for workflow and performance improvements.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Manage all course materials and records, and prepare regular reports and presentations for senior leadership on training activities, outcomes, and progress toward goals.

  • Create feedback loops and enhancement pipelines informed by stakeholders and data.
  • Maintain strong understanding of revenue performance metrics and payer mix.
  • Ensure compliance with all HIPAA privacy and security standards.

  • Performs other duties as required by the System Vice President of RCM.
