About The Position

The Quality & Food Safety Manager is accountable for building and operating an integrated Quality Management and Food Safety system that ensures product integrity from grape to bottle, achieves and sustains GFSI certification, and enables confident, risk-based decision-making throughout the production process. The Quality & Food Safety Manager will provide strategic system leadership (ISO 9001 + GFSI) and hands-on operational QA support, serving as the primary quality partner to North Coast Winemaking, Production, and Supply Chain. This position plays a critical role in balancing production objectives with quality and food safety risk, ensuring consistent execution across all sites. While the position is primarily based in Napa, routine travel to Santa Rosa and Ceres will be required. This position will report to the Director of Quality and Food Safety.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Microbiology, Enology, Food Science or related field.
  • 3-5+ years of leadership experience in Quality / Food Safety within the wine or beverage industry.
  • Direct experience with ISO 9001 or equivalent QMS and GFSI certification (e.g. SQF, FSSC 22000, BRCGS, etc.)
  • Deep foundation in HACCP principles, FSMA guidelines, and QMS / food safety applications in the wine and beverage industry
  • Strong knowledge of winemaking principles and corresponding quality and food safety risk mitigation strategies
  • Excellent cross-functional leadership ability and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and make risk-based decisions in ambiguous or time-sensitive situations
  • Ability to prioritize requests and produce clear and concise documentation
  • Must be able to travel by car as needed
  • Frequently sitting/walking/standing
  • Use hands to grasp, feel, move, reach or assemble
  • Ability to perform visual and organoleptic analysis of wine during various stages of production (juice, fermentation, blends, etc.)
  • Lift 30 – 55 lbs
  • Comply with all Bronco mandated safety programs and policies, including GMP, OSHA, IIPP, and GLP.
  • Work with, or in proximity to, various chemicals, solvents, pressurized systems, compressed gases, and biological materials.
  • Occasional work in environments that may include low, medium, or high voltages.
  • Occasional work with energized systems and working in close proximity to moving equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation of a GFSI recognized certification program, including gap assessment, system design, and certification readiness
  • Develop and integrate HACCP / Preventive Controls and PRPs across all sites
  • Align ISO 9001 QMS with GFSI requirements into a unified, scalable system
  • Establish and maintain document control, management review, and KPI reporting processes
  • Accountable for audit readiness and certification outcomes across all sites
  • Provide QA leadership for daily production and bottling operations
  • Oversee nonconforming product management, holds, and disposition
  • Serve as primary QA partner to Winemaking and Operations teams and provide risk-based guidance on bottling readiness, product stability, and microbial risk
  • Support blend approvals and ensure alignment with product specifications
  • Oversee effective CAPA closures and CAR effectiveness, supporting or leading RCA investigations as necessary
  • Champion quality improvement initiatives and standardize best practices across all Winery locations
  • Support supplier approval and monitoring programs
  • Ensure incoming raw materials meet all specifications, including any customer mandated or regulatory requirements
  • Oversee co-manufacturing quality and customer / consumer complaint investigations for the Quality organization
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, federal, and international regulations (e.g. FDA, TTB) and other special claims (e.g. organic)
  • Provide risk-based guidance on any process deviations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on NPD / Innovation projects, ensuring project timelines are met
