About The Position

Overview Manager of Operations – Painters 2nd shift Overall Responsibilities of a 2nd Shift Operations Manager: The Painter Operations Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of trade operations within the Groton facility on off shifts. The candidate must manage the performance of the off shift; safety, quality, cost, schedule, continuous improvement and employee communications. Candidates must also possess a proven track record in these areas. Must have effective problem solving skills. Candidate must be able to promote a positive team environment and be highly motivated with strong interpersonal skills. Must be fully cognizant of OSHA requirements relating to specific trades and will be held accountable for enforcement of standards and shipyard safety practices. Must be able to interpret and implement all job requirements utilizing EB systems and procedures. This position is on 2nd shift, with some overlap on 1st and 3rd shifts at times based on business needs. Key Responsibilities of a 2nd Shift Operations Manager: Product/Services: Coordinate with external customers and internal partners/stakeholders Achieve quality objectives; apply corrective actions to address deficiencies including utilizing the MDD- 00664 process on off shift Achieve cost/schedule/attainment objectives; adjust manpower and overtime on off shifts, material and equipment as needed. Communicate back to 1 st shift counterparts on these objectives Ensure adherence to shipyard cleanliness and system cleanliness controls Drive innovation and continuous improvement efforts to support program goals on off shifts Identify production facilities and equipment needs; consult with facility maintenance Provide input to availability of production and non-production material; consult with material planners and facilities Process: Enforce/comply with safety and environmental programs; monitor trends and ensure compliance on off shifts; consult with responsible departments Plan for risk identification and responsive mitigation strategies on off shifts Perform formal surveillances in line with 1 st shift project management Oversee the off shift’s severe weather/shipyard isolation process Participate in off shift’s safe-site audits, hazard hunts, and safety tours People: Plan for Human Resource needs through succession planning and talent management; input to the recruiting, interviewing and selection of new employees; consult with manpower planning and 1st shift paint managers Improve workforce performance and productivity; establish and communicate expectations; positively motivate the workforce Monitor and improve workplace climate; reinforce desired workforce values behaviors; maintain morale on off shifts Manage individual performance of General Foremen and Operations Supervisors; develop their technical and professional leadership skills on off shifts Collaborate with HR to establish pay adjustments and take appropriate disciplinary actions as needed

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 8+ years of trades/manufacturing or coatings experience
  • 4+ years of Supervisory/Management experience in all aspects of Operations processes and procedures is required.
  • Experience with succession planning and talent management; input to the recruiting and selection of new employees; collaboration with manpower and strategic plans
  • Experience interfacing with internal & external customers

  • Computer skills including MS Office and Project
  • FLG/BLG candidate
