About The Position

The Manager of Member Engagement works closely with the Director of Membership on the creation, coordination, and execution of a comprehensive events and programming strategy that drives deeper participation among PHS’s general membership. This role strengthens community-building across digital platforms, Meadowbrook Farm, the PHS Town Hall, Pop Up Gardens, and volunteer programs connected to Healthy Neighborhoods and Public Gardens & Landscapes. The position also oversees the PHS Partners Program, manages and expands day-tour offerings, and pilots new engagement models that support PHS priorities and a long-term vision for community activation.

Requirements

  • Minimum degree required: Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • 3–5 years of experience in membership programming, community engagement, events, or arts/culture/environmental organizations.
  • Driver’s License: Required
  • Outstanding project management and event execution skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfort engaging with members and volunteers.
  • Creative thinker with ability to translate strategy into compelling member experiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing educational or public-facing programs strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Based on goals, strategies, and budget provided by the Director of Membership design an annual programming calendar for general members across in-person, digital, and hybrid formats.
  • Enhance existing public programming or develop new member programming to engage members more regularly through digital education and virtual programming, as well as at PHS’s Meadowbrook Farm, Townhall, and Pop Up Gardens.
  • Work with Volunteer staff to enhance existing opportunities and develop new opportunities for member participation in volunteer activations.
  • Create programming pipelines that inspire deeper engagement, renewal, and upgrade into Giving Circle and 1827 Society.
  • Partner with Shows & Events to manage logistics; collaborate with Marketing to promote events.
  • Oversee member check-in, hospitality, and on-site presence at all membership events and assigned major PHS events.
  • Coordinate day tours, specialty programs, and partnerships that expand member experiences.
  • Maintain and grow the Partners Program, including benefits, engagement strategy, and annual programming to encourage growth in participation.
  • Track program performance and member participation metrics to guide continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate closely with the Development team on membership strategy, cultivation, and stewardship.
  • Support annual goals for Membership revenue, retention, engagement, and upgrade strategies.
