About The Position

The Museum offers visitors extraordinary learning experiences and enhanced school, public and extended programs. DISCOVERY serves as a family-oriented and energetic educational destination. Position Description: The Manager of Learning Experiences will execute tactical plans regarding visitor experience, gallery team member supervision, and visitor safety while creating a mission-oriented environment with excellent customer service and efficiency. The Manager of Learning Experiences provides leadership and management for the direction and execution of daily Museum gallery operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a discipline noted with position title, or related discipline required.
  • Minimum one year full-time managerial experience required.
  • Strong managerial skills for team supervision.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, planning skills and initiative.
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving skills, and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to work effectively to meet visitor needs.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with team members and the public.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and ability to work independently.
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced environment with distractions.
  • Visual acuity and hearing, and clear communication in the English language.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Physical activities required include and are not limited to: walking and standing for the duration of scheduled shifts, light and heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.), typing, sitting, and bending.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as Manager on Duty (85%)
  • Responsible for modeling desired visitor engagements.
  • Responsible for responding to visitor concerns and complaints.
  • Responsible for adhering to and implementing Museum safety policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for working in partnership with Museum security personnel to implement security policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for administering first aid treatment.
  • Responsible for monitoring and supervising gallery operations during Museum business hours.
  • Ensures accountability for Learning Experiences team member goals and objectives as defined by leadership.
  • Responsible for communicating performance-related feedback to Learning Experiences Managers.
  • Responsible for job performance coaching for Learning Experiences team members.
  • Administers annual performance reviews for Learning Experiences team members as assigned.
  • Responsible for maintaining radio and radio equipment inventory for the Learning Experiences team.
  • Responsible for maintaining weekly update communications with Learning Experiences Managers.
  • Responsible for supporting the onboarding process for Learning Experiences team members.
  • Supports volunteer placement and assignments in collaboration with the Volunteer Manager.
  • Assists in the management of staffing resources (15%)
  • Attends weekly meetings with the Director of Learning Experiences.
  • Attends professional development training as assigned.
  • Attends monthly management meetings and quarterly All Staff meetings.
  • Becomes proficient in all required training to ensure visitor safety.
  • Serves as a member of the DISCOVERY Safety Committee.
  • Develops and implements one annual professional development session for the Learning Experiences team.
  • Maintains a high level of professionalism in performing assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Brings positive recognition to DISCOVERY Children’s Museum brand through professionalism, enthusiastic attitude and effective communication.
  • Supports the DISCOVERY mission and vision and adheres to all work rules, policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to ethical principles in all business dealings.
  • Maintains confidentiality of Learning Experiences team member records.
  • Establishes and adjusts priorities to maintain efficient workflow.
  • Accepts directives with enthusiasm and commitment.
  • Demonstrates a considerate, friendly and constructive attitude toward fellow team members.
  • Treats visitors, partners and vendors in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
