Maintains clinical competency in professional nursing practice and serves as a professional role model for clinical excellence across the organization. Excellent communication skills required (verbal & written) to interact with individuals at all levels of the organization. Skilled at designing program content, learning objectives, while incorporating principles of adult learning. QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION: Education: · Licensed and current registration as a Registered Nurse in the State of Pennsylvania. Orthopaedic experience preferred. · BSN or equivalent required. · MSN preferred. Qualifications: · A minimum of (5) years of experience as a registered nurse required. · A minimum of (2) years of experience in an education role is preferred. · ACLS and PALS certifications or the ability to obtain within one year of employment required. · Clinical knowledge of the nursing process and the ability to adhere to the process and structure standards of OSS Health. · Background in education and teaching experience preferred. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: · Facilitates and leads the development of clinical excellence and professional development across OSSHealth and work with leadership to implement departmental goals. Demonstrates strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple complex and diverse projects simultaneously. · Plans and develops clinical educational curricula across OSSHealth. Demonstrates effective communication and leadership skills in interactions with direct reports, peers and leadership. Functions as a change agent and leader in the development and growth of education across OSSHealth. Provides clinical coaching and development to staff. Demonstrates strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple complex and diverse projects simultaneously. Records and tracks mandatory certifications and licensures including American Heart Association courses: BLS, ACLS and PALS. Develops technical and content support for HealthStream HeartCode courses. Ensures all staff has mandatory annual education (specifically those courses mandatory for TJC accreditation) through HealthStream system. Assigns new courses, when necessary, removes old courses as appropriate and updates courses as needed. Provides support to staff using HealthStream Education System. As budget allows, attends conferences and quarterly HUGS (HealthStream User Group) meetings to remain competent with HealthStream system as necessary. Designs and implements new courses based on needs of management and staff Schedules in-services for all areas and support staff at OSS including equipment demos, supply updates and monthly staff meetings. Designs and implements annual drills for staff members, including MH (malignant hyperthermia), Mock Code, Incapacitated Provider and Patient, Disaster and Communicable Disease. Supports and attends as needed monthly Practice Council meetings. Provides CEC (continuing education credit) opportunities to staff via online courses or live in-services. Provides CE tracking information for department employees. Tracks progress of new staff via education packet and orientation checklists. Checks in with new staff and preceptors to assess needs and progress. Designs, tracks and updates HealthStream Competency Center annual competencies for all job descriptions within OSS. Keeps current with clinical publications, literature, rules and recommended practices as dictated by various governing bodies (ie AORN, AST, TJC). Maintains up-to-date clinical education files on employees in ASC, Pain Center, Perioperative areas at hospital and Inpatient unit. Works in collaboration with Inpatient Manager, ASC Administrator, Clinical Managers, Coordinators, Charge Nurses, Infection Control Nurse, Implant Coordinator, Equipment Reps, OSSH Clinical Educators and Scheduler to assure staff is receiving adequate and current updates and information as pertains to job description. Other duties as assigned SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTIES: · Functions as a coach & mentor to the staff for whom this position is responsible. · Provides leadership and direction to the staff for whom responsible in order to maintain a work environment that promotes the creative development of ideas and allows employees to meet and/or exceed expectations and established standards of performance · Ensures the compliance and/or oversees the compliance with all policies and procedures by staff. Recognizes exemplary compliance. Initiates appropriate corrective action in instances of noncompliance; secures required approvals before addressing with the staff. · Makes decisions and takes actions essential to the daily operation of the work area(s) for which responsible. · Maintains or oversees the maintenance of supplies deemed necessary for the efficient operation of the area(s) for which responsible. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must be proficient in the English language, both verbally and written, in order to communicate effectively with patients, co-workers, physicians, vendors, and the general public. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Moderate physical effort when working in patient care environment consisting of standing, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, and stooping. Moderate sitting and keyboarding when performing administrative responsibilities. Fine and gross motor skills and manual dexterity to operate keyboard and other equipment. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to respond quickly and effectively to an emergency. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Climate controlled environment with occasional periods of being outside.
