About The Position

Manager, Continuation Engineering Position Summary The Manager of Continuation Engineering leads all engineering activities required to support, sustain, and improve released products throughout their lifecycle, including legacy products still being serviced in the field. This role ensures technical continuity, product performance, regulatory compliance, cost optimization, and long-term product viability. This leader partners cross-functionally with Design Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Operations, Field Service, and Product Management to manage engineering changes, mitigate obsolescence, improve serviceability, and enhance overall product performance and customer experience. Another area of focus of this role is enabling Field Service through engineering-driven improvements to tools, equipment, and product enhancements that increase technician efficiency and elevate the customer experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related Engineering discipline.
  • 8+ years of engineering experience in new product design / development, sustaining, continuation, lifecycle, or product support engineering.
  • 3+ years of team management or leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of product lifecycle management and engineering change processes (ECO/ECR).
  • Experience driving reliability improvements and field issue resolution.
  • Demonstrated success leading cost-reduction and product improvement initiatives.
  • Experience supporting Field Service or customer-facing technical teams preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Engineering or MBA.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or Black Belt).
  • Experience in regulated industries (e.g., aerospace, medical devices).
  • Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and configuration control practices.

Responsibilities

  • Continuation Engineering Leadership Lead all continuation engineering activities for released and legacy products. Ensure technical continuity and design integrity throughout the product lifecycle. Drive proactive identification of risks related to obsolescence, supplier changes, or field performance trends. Maintain ownership of long-term product technical baseline and configuration control. Establish sustaining engineering strategies that balance reliability, serviceability, cost, and customer satisfaction.
  • Engineering Change Management Own and govern the Engineering Change Order (ECO/ECR) process for continuation products. Evaluate technical, operational, financial, and field impact of proposed changes. Ensure timely validation, approval, and implementation of changes. Maintain accurate and compliant product documentation and technical records.
  • Field Service Support & Product Improvement Serve as the primary engineering interface for Field Service on released and legacy products. Partner with Field Service leadership to identify opportunities to improve technician efficiency, safety, and effectiveness. Lead development and implementation of: Service tool improvements Equipment upgrades Serviceability enhancements Design modifications that reduce service time and repeat visits Analyze field performance data to drive reliability and durability improvements. Support root cause investigations of field issues and implement corrective actions. Ensure product updates enhance the overall customer experience.
  • Product Performance & Lifecycle Optimization Lead cross-functional investigations into product performance trends. Drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) related to field or quality concerns. Improve product robustness, reliability, and serviceability. Ensure continuity of supply and long-term support strategies for aging platforms.
  • Cost Optimization & Value Engineering Lead value engineering and lifecycle cost-reduction initiatives. Identify material substitutions, redesign opportunities, and supplier optimizations. Balance cost improvements with reliability, field performance, and service efficiency. Track and report savings against business targets.
  • Team Leadership & Resource Management Lead, mentor, and develop a team of continuation/sustaining engineers. Establish priorities aligned with operational, service, and strategic objectives. Manage workload planning and resource allocation. Foster a culture of accountability, technical rigor, data-driven decisions, and continuous improvement.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration Serve as the primary technical interface between Design Engineering and post-release product stakeholders. Collaborate with Supply Chain on supplier performance, qualification, and obsolescence mitigation. Partner with Quality on compliance, reliability, and corrective actions. Provide structured feedback to product management teams to improve future product designs and serviceability.
