About The Position

Under the direction of the Vice Chair of Pediatric Operations, the Manager of Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) is responsible for the coordination and oversight of clinical services, continuing education, and performance evaluation of Pediatric APPs. This leadership role is also responsible for the development, implementation, and ongoing management of a structures pediatric onboarding program. The manager is expected to lead with integrity, credibility and vision- engaging and inspiring the APP team to meet organizational goals. The role requires the ability to influence and motivate staff, fostering a culture of clinical excellence, accountability and collaboration. The manager with also maintain clinical practice, providing direct patient care under physician supervision in alignment with the age-specific needs of pediatric patients.

Requirements

Must be a graduate of either a Nurse Practitioner or a Physician Assistant Program.
If a Nurse Practitioner, must have a Master’s Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
Nurse Practitioner certification or certification eligible by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
Licensed in the State of Rhode Island as a Nurse Practitioner; license must include prescriptive privileges.
If a Physician Assistant, must be a graduate of a Physician Assistant Program with a M.S. degree.
Passing grade on certifying examination administered by the NCCPA.
Certified by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants
Basic Life Support/Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required.
Functions with demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of the aging processes, human development stage and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
Five years’ experience of NP or PA experience.

Nice To Haves

Prior supervisory experience desirable.
Nurse practitioners hired into this role are expected to either hold a Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree or enroll in a program within three year of hire.

Responsibilities

Collaborates in the formulation of the annual budget and long-term budgetary planning as it relates to the Pediatric Advanced Practice Provider services.
Develops and implements strategic objectives for Pediatric Advanced Practice Providers to practice at fullest capacity of their license.
Develops and implements plans to support the goals and strategies of the organization.
Applies clinical and operational expertise to guide decision-making, resolve challenges, and achieve operational and clinical objectives
Serves on various organizational committees and projects to share in decision-making concerning the delivery of care and operations of the clinical organization.
Develops, implements, and maintains professional development activities including on-boarding, Advanced Practice Provider competencies, mentoring and preceptor programs.
Participates in the hiring of Advanced Practice Providers, including initial review of applications, selection of candidates, and participation in the interviewing and final selection process.
Conducts annual performance evaluations for direct reports.
Builds dynamic relationships with administration, medical directors, and nursing leadership to establish an exemplary model of care to increase patient satisfaction, professional development and research activities
Generates and maintains relevant information relating to the Advanced Practice Providers within Pediatrics.
Coordinates Advanced Practice Provider participation in APP Practice Council, Pediatric APP Meeting and APP grand-rounds.
Develops, implements, and maintains a communication pathway for the Pediatric APPs to upper management.
Performs other administrative functions within the Advanced Practice Provider area, as deemed appropriate, i.e., serving on appropriate committees.
Maintains established hospital/department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.
Develops and implements a unit specific clinical competencies for Advanced Practice Providers.
Obtains and records detailed patient medical histories, performs and records complete and detailed physical examinations, records pertinent progress notes in the medical records, prepares discharge and follow-up plans, and initiates life-saving measures in emergency situations.
Prescriptive privileges per licensure.
