About The Position

The Manager of Accounting oversees daily accounting operations and provides leadership to accounting staff to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial activities. Reporting to the Director of Accounting, this role is responsible for supervising transactional accounting functions including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Billing, and General Ledger activities. The Manager of Accounting partners closely with organizational leaders to support sound financial management, assist with monthly close and reporting, and contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning efforts. This position plays a critical role in supporting Goodwill Southeast Georgia’s mission through strong financial stewardship and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in public and/or private accounting.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience supervising an accounting team.
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Proven analytical, problem-solving, and team leadership skills.
  • Experience working with ERP systems, preferably Microsoft Dynamics Business Central.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables; experience with Microsoft Power BI preferred.
  • Experience using Prophix or similar budgeting and forecasting tools.
  • Detail-oriented, process-improvement mindset with a positive, collaborative approach.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across departments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage day-to-day operations of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Billing, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and high-quality team performance.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, KPIs, and metrics for A/P and A/R functions.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across procure-to-pay and billing processes, including automation, standardization, and workflow optimization.
  • Oversee compliance reporting requirements, including sales tax filings, business licenses, and other regulatory submissions.
  • Manage the monthly close process, including accruals, prepaid expenses, reconciliations, sub-ledger schedules, and journal entries.
  • Support monthly financial reporting, including variance analysis, management reports, and ad-hoc financial analysis.
  • Assist with preparation of audit workpapers and coordinate responses to external auditor requests.
  • Monitor and strengthen internal controls, identifying gaps and implementing corrective actions.
  • Build strong cross-functional partnerships to support accurate financial operations and efficient business processes.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop accounting staff through coaching, performance management, goal setting, and training.
  • Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning, and other technical initiatives as assigned by the Director of Accounting or CFO.
