About The Position

In February 2022, Mayor Andre Dickens announced that the Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Film and Entertainment would expand to include the first ever Nightlife Division. The incumbent will help establish the city’s nightlife team and manage day to day operations, as well as implement recommendations made by a Nightlife Advisory Committee & Working Group that convenes to address challenges and opportunities in Atlanta’s nightlife industry. The primary function of the office is to serve as an intermediary between nightlife establishments, residents, and the City of Atlanta government. To include promoting an economically and culturally vibrant nightlife industry.

Requirements

  • Understanding of Atlanta politics and government structure
  • Experience managing competing interests and resolving conflicts
  • 5+ years of experience managing staff
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure, public facing role
  • Experience with public speaking
  • Ability to work with diverse stakeholders with varying perspectives.
  • Ability to identify relevant trends and patterns and make recommendations to improve processes.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and assess how to manage the communication flow accordingly.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Five years of full-time paid experience acquired within the last fifteen years with two years of managerial or executive experience
  • Familiarity with local government operations and policies
  • candidate may be required to be on call and work various shifts such as weekends and/or nights/evenings

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Public Administration, Economic Development or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of economic development principles, strategies, and best practices

Responsibilities

  • Set the agenda for and manage day-to-day operations of the Nightlife Division
  • Recruit, train, and supervise the nightlife team.
  • Set performance expectations and provide regular feedback to staff members.
  • Monitor trends and issues related to nightlife establishments and develop methods to address concerns in consultation with relevant stakeholders.
  • Research legislative matters and contribute to the drafting of policy’s that impact the nightlife ecosystem.
  • Establish and schedule recurring meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Engage with Neighborhood Planning Units, Business, Improvement Districts, Civic and Business Associations, etc.
  • Develop training materials and tools to support nightlife establishments.
  • Prepare and manage budgets for individual events and the overall nightlife program.
  • Negotiate contracts, secure services, and manage vendor relationships.
  • Prepare, create, and deliver data visualization including reports, and presentation decks that are visually appealing and convey relevant data in a clear and concise manner.
  • Collaborate with the communication liaison to develop material and social media announcements for events hosted by the Nightlife Division.
  • Oversee the annual nightlife assessment strategy for nightlife businesses throughout the city
  • Develop and implement community engagement events designed to support a vibrant nightlife in Atlanta while ensuring the health and safety of patrons, residents, and communities.
  • Serve as an intermediary between city agencies, law enforcement, elected officials, the nightlife industry, and Atlanta residents; to address issues relating to nightlife.
  • Implement recommendations made by the Nightlife Working Group
  • Utilize interagency network to help with permitting, licensing, and approvals for nightlife businesses.
  • Facilitate outreach engagements and serve as a point of contact to address nightlife matters and inquires; this includes the nightlife community, business associations, community boards, community and residential groups, city agencies and other key stakeholders;
  • Implement recommendations made by the Nightlife Advisory Council
  • Address customer feedback and resolve issues promptly and professionally.
