About The Position

The Manager, Legal Affairs - North Cluster with Liberty Caribbean is proactive, solutions-oriented and adept at engaging across functions and markets, whilst providing best-in-class divisional legal business partnering to senior divisional stakeholders, and directing key initiatives across a broad range of matters. The successful candidate will analyze complex legal and commercial issues, challenge the business, develop practical legal strategies, create tangible improvements in business performance, and have the ability to identify and mitigate legal risks and communicate legal advice constructively and succinctly for multiple markets. This regional role is open to applicants in the following Liberty Caribbean North Cluster markets: Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, BVI, Jamaica, St. Marteen, St. Kitts & Nevis, Trinidad & Tobago or Turks & Caicos.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Law (LLB) from a well-respected University.
  • Admitted to practice in one of the following countries- Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, BVI, Jamaica, St. Marteen, St. Kitts & Nevis, Trinidad & Tobago or Turks & Caicos.
  • Minimum 5-7 years’ experience of working in private practice and/or in-house, preferably within a regulated sector.
  • Strong working knowledge of broad range of legal practice areas including commercial law, corporate law, contracting, litigation, real estate, and intellectual property law.
  • Technical competence in drafting and negotiating customer and vendor agreements.
  • Ability to work proactively and collaboratively as the primary legal point of contact.
  • Diligent and proactive, with demonstrated excellent legal and business judgment, technical acumen, communication skills, and strategic thinking.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of ICT, telecommunications laws and regulations and commercial technology products would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Providing top-quality legal support on commercial, corporate, consumer, employment, litigation, regulatory, corporate governance and compliance matters.
  • Handling all legal matters related to commercial agreements including active negotiation, drafting and reviewing of a broad range of commercial agreements including business-critical agreements.
  • Advising on corporate governance matters relating to market local legal requirements.
  • Keeping abreast of new legislation and current industry trends and regulatory matters which impact the company and advising key stakeholders on the same.
  • Reviewing relevant legislation and court tribunal decisions and advising the company of any potential impact.
  • Advising the company of any matters which affect its business operations and/or operating licences where applicable and ensure its compliance with relevant legislation, agreements and licences.
  • Working closely with senior leaders and business partners across the business to advise them on navigating and managing legal, regulatory and compliance risks and Group governance requirements.
  • Work cross functionally with business teams across the company to analyze legal risks, devise solutions, and develop strong, trusted advisor relationships.
  • Managing litigation portfolios for assigned markets including managing internal preparation and engagement and management of outside counsel.
  • Managing outside counsel on commercial negotiations and regulatory issues (including potential and actual litigation) to maximize performance and achievement of business objectives.
  • Support and where required, manage legal department initiatives and process improvements for assigned markets.
