Requirements

• Applicants should possess a Bachelor degree in Medical Technology, Medical Lab Science or chemical, physical, or biological science and graduate of an NAACLS approved laboratory training program as applicable to the position. May also qualify under route 2, 3, or 4 of the ASCP Board of Certification.
• Proven strong clinical skills and at least five year’s experience in point of care testing.
• Must be certified as a Medical Technologist or a Medical Laboratory Scientist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.

Responsibilities

• Maintains professional skills, plans for and provides appropriate care to patients of all ages (neonate to geriatric).
• Serves as a General Supervisor, Technical Consultant, and/or Technical Supervisor for point of care testing within the hospital and laboratory testing at hospital-based practices and outreach locations.
• Manages the preanalytic specimen handling/ordering in the customer service/specimen processing staff in the laboratory.
• Assures that daily work schedules maximize production from assigned employees. Assures proper documentation of employees’ hours / time in Kronos.
• Develops reviews and recommends laboratory quality control and quality assurance programs and recommends improvement in accordance with the hospital Performance Improvement Process.
• Facilitates test development and implementation and assures competency of technical staff in all procedures.
• Assures that all equipment, instrumentation and manuals are properly maintained and meet accrediting agency standards.
• Collaborates with the Lab Director and Department Chairman on policy and procedure issues and assures compliance with all regulatory agency requirements.
• Assures fiscal responsibility and quality of all laboratory operations including recommendations for new equipment or procedures and assisting in preparation of the annual budget.
• Teaches and assures training of students, employees, residents, and providers in current methodologies.
• Facilitates the development of new services, policies and procedures and reviews all tests and methods annually.
• Assures continuing education of all employees with regulatory issues and the hospital’s policy.
• Completes performance evaluation of all employees and/or facilitates the completion of competencies by staff at all locations.
• Assures compliance with safety and infection control requirements.
• Prepares routine reports and researches and reports on special assignments assuring validity and timeliness.
• Serves as liaison with other hospital departments including participation on organizational teams and committees.
• Responsible for designing and implementing oversight mechanisms for 2nd and 3rd shifts.
